Will have a prochloraz + tebuconazole product in store just in case there’s any rain on the horizon. Skyfall and Montana will be flowering next week. The way the forecast is looking, it will probably all get returned.

Personally I feel after the horrendous 2012 fusarium & michrodochium wheat infections, the amount of inoculum returned to the soil has intensified stem base & ear infection intensity if the conditions are at all conducive. Surprising after such a dry spring, how much nodal fusarium is about. What prior to 2012 would have led to a bit of ear disease, now leads to 3, 4, 5 lost grains. 10%!! Varietal resistance is either strong like Leeds, reflection-or average(ie not great) most other vars, or catastophic-Cougar, which was areal shame as otherwise it was a great variety, but chance of a bit of rain at flowering, and you had a tonne/ha down the drain.

Planning teb, but will have proline in the store if turns wet, with phosphite for seed crops. Mix with amistar I would imagine as a standard.

You think innoculum is active 7 years later ?

Doesn’t it make don worse

I don't expect I can hit the wheat at the optimum time for don anyway given rapid development ; forecast wind speed......and sprayer in the workshop.

Hadn't heard it makes don worse. I'm hard pressed to do much more than half a litre of teb, but I have amistar and comet in the shed and some is quite old already!

Get on an use the amistar and comet up man.

Plodding thru head and shoulders ear wash, half rate epoxi, 40% teb, 50% comet. Bit of proline also on best milling wheat fields if timing spot on.
Too windy today so stacked all the Elatus tidily under the chem shed table, where it can sit for 11 months.

Definately seen more prevelant fusarium stem based disease since 2012, rather than before. Previous worst year I recall(not exclusive as depends where you farm) was 1998. Now find nodal fusarium after fairly innocuous weather whereas previously needed properly wet times. No scientific validation, purely observation.

Same here Chalky...lots of wheat drilled in chopped wheat straw with a Claydon. Agronomist and I were surprised / ambushed by the amounts we could see.
Luckily appears to have stalled out just in time, but it was close.

No rain at all here ATM. All quality wheats, but I'm thinking 0.75 - 1.0 l teb.
Can't bring myself to spend £24 ha + on a prothio based spray.
Any views?

No T3 here. We did a T1 and T2 and walked everything with our agronomist earlier this week. All crops are distinctively average from a yield prediction POV. They all look respectable today from afar but start looking at osr pod sizes, number of grains in wheat/barley ears now showing, bean root structure and you’ll see nothing spectacular at all. He’s saying it’s what he’s seeing everywhere (lincs) so we are not spending anything else unless it means loosing a crop which is now doubtful with barley and osr harvest being 8-10 weeks away and wheat 12 weeks only. The T2 on the wheat just gone on this week will give us 4-5 weeks protection by which time your there fungicide wise.

Stem based disease ID often muddied by ignorance. I initially thought eyespot, and there is some, but its position moving higher up the stem, then nodal browning, zero's in on the culprit. Some sharp eyespot amongst it to boot between nodes 1 & 2. Vining peas in rotation(magnet for fusarium foot rot) often exacerbates the soil levels. Wetish week forecast here next week-will be watching carefully for anthers on early crops.

I thought Prosaro wasn't around anymore.

No difference between prothio & teb for fusarium on the ear, both can only offer around 50% control even at full dose.
I've got prices for it anyway!
Been wet here off and on for a while now, we don't cut wheat until late August or early September so a decent dose on ear tops up protection. If I was somewhere with shorter ripening period and drier weather I would just do teb.

Proline and teb here for around £19/ha. 3 weeks after the flag spray at mid flowering. Some a sniff of foliar K too as I haven't had enough rain to wash the MOP in & I've been using less pgr this year in the dry weather & want stiff straw.

Compared to Kestrel at 0.6l/ha, how much ai are you getting for your £19/ha

Personally at the moment I don't think I'll be putting anymore spray on my wheats it's ideal conditions for brown rust but unless things change soon then lack of water will knacker crops long before brown rust can.

This is what happened last year. The brown rust threat was very real and anyone with good potential should surely protect it? However if senescence happens early again due to heat and lack of moisture the brown rust threat might not affect yield.

0.336 of Teb and 0.336 of Azoxystrobin going on Zyatt at the moment . Crusoe will be ready in a couple of days . We still haven't had any proper rain here but keep getting drizzly rain and some very heavy dews .
