Lush spring barley

Ive a couple of fields of spring barley that's are very lush....what would be the best pgr to go in at and at what rate, ideally to thicken the stem and take a bit of future height of it. It's just started stem extention. I've canopy, moddus and cerone in store.

My preference in such crops is Terpal (0.5-0.7 L/Ha) applied when the flag leaf is peeping. Does a good shortening job and lessens brackling in the event of a delayed harvest.

I realise this isn’t what you have in your store.

Perhaps 0.2 Moddus now for stem stiffening if you’re really worried and see how it is looking when the flag leaf is peeping. You don’t want to overdo it and hurt the crop either.

Depends a bit on the variety too, some will have better lodging ratings than others.

If using cerone, and very lush with plenty of soil moisture and rain in the forecast I go at 0.25 litres. I've sprayed patches at 0.15 litres, then it came dry weather, and you could see to the inch where I turned the sprayer on/off.

My preference would be 0.5 Terpal but in this case I'd opt for 0.4-0.5 Canopy as it's available. Moddus is best used in early stem extension IMO. I have never used Cerone so can't comment.

I've used Terpal in the past on good thick spring barley during booting (before ear emergence) if the spring barley looked lush. I've had brackling in the past but have spent time since boosting soil K indices and have some foliar K to go on with the T2 in a couple of weeks. I don't know what the answer is - spring barley is 1/3 of my farm & the Planet & Laureate starts to brackle as soon as it is ripe. Propino and Tipple did the same in the past. @phil ?
