T3

Just mixed up a tank of 0.3333333333333 of Toledo and 0.33333333333333332 (I split a bit<-!) of Comet for tomorrow morning. Anthers very obvious now in early October drilled Siskin on land which has missed all the rain. Rather a lot of aphids building up. A lot more than previous years. Still not at threshold of 2/3 ears infected post GS61 so not doing anything especially with fairly windy conditions.

Only just finished spring barley T2. Going to be difficult to get all this T3 on in decent time.

My aphid explosion (see OBM thread) sorted themselves out luckily. I suspect you will be fine.
I had forgotten but barely 3 weeks ago we had two particular frosts that wiped out a magnificent 3 day old wisteria display in the garden. Maybe the cold cool spell had predators on the back foot more than the aphids. Fields are alive now with all sorts of dangerous looking predator type chappies., including spiders which i could not find at all last weekend.

Forecast for this coming week is looking the wettest it's looked in a long time. If we get a decent dollop this week I think it will just about be in time for even our driest land. Will be putting a T3 on everything whilst the forecast remains as it is.

Even by the wettest for a while, I don't think it will add up to 6mm.

What will actually kill the 2nd generation of aphids? I could see lots of spiders (but do they catch the wingless ones), but not a huge number of ladybirds.

I don't know. Rain looks to be coming in from the south and east which is different to before. Even then, the difference in localised rainfall here has been huge. A lot of people getting 20mm here when others have 1mm. We could get 30mm this week or nothing.
What forecast are you using, mine says feck all for me in the far south east this week.

as yet 100% unsprayed winter bean crop being close to wheat crops is helping no end with IPM - beans are alive with beneficials. Similar story where FYM and compost is tipped on field headlands

good old fashioned rotation / cropping again ........... the old dudes who had no chemistry tool box knew their stuff !!

They also didn't have the advantage of chems having lowered levels of the bad guys so we can have a year or two without too many issues, they are now building and likely to cause problems, we can only hope that the predators catch up quickly or there could be some real issues , weve not used any insecticide for quite a few years and didn't use deter last year, so far so good but bydv was an issue before and may become again

Our osr and neighbours as well looking very poor this year due to lack of any suitable control of cabbage stem flea beetle in my opinion we are losing the battle and no amount of predators will help with this. Years ago osr was called Black gold but I think it's days are numbered .The real issues are already with us !
