Getting a little dry

Seen some next door nearly chest high

Interesting varietal differences here, within the very same field in one instance.

Funky was in full ear when the April drought broke on 8th May and so refused to grow any taller.

Bazooka wasn't and did - about 60cm too much, in fact. :banghead: :banghead:

So we're expecting <10% lodging and >90%, respectively.

I’m with you, light thin land the yield is already being knocked hard. Better soils look like they are, on the whole, holding their yield potential for the moment but desperately needing water. But not enough in the forecast to keep them from being hit as well. Any hot weather will stuff the light land, not sure how much longer the better soils will hang on for.

Had someone from Anglian Water here yesterday, they said soil moisture deficit was 200% above the average value. Also that they get 50% of their water supplies from ground water and that there has been no recharge of the aquifers since last April!

The forecast has gone from 16mm yesterday morning to 7mm this morning and now down to 5mm. It’s been a familiar pattern both last year and this.

Here too, Leic-Northants border.

9mm forecast for tomorrow down from an inch, we had <2mm on Tuesday, more forecast for next Tuesday. Lets see if it materialises or disappears as has been the regular pattern. Ive got a few acres of wheat (not much) on sandy land and its fully in ear well below knee height. Mostly still has potential but I doubt it will be a bumper harvest here...
