Have just been on to NFU head office concerning the tweet off Packham.
Was told they were unaware of it but are getting on to it straightaway.
When I asked how straightaway I was told "well it will go to the 'media team' and they will decide whether to challenge it or not"
We wait and see !
Do the NFU have a media team ????? You wouldn't of known it .

Hasn’t the live export been covered about ten years ago with big protests at ports etc?
Anyone remember?
It's been ongoing since at least the early 90's. Back then, Joanna Lumley was the public figurehead who cried dockside at the horror of well cared for calves being transported in good conditions.

So, if Packham really cared deeply about this issue, then he's had years to get on board. One would wonder why it's taken him so long? Other than, his profile has raised so much this year, this is his latest fame supplement.

Keeps the likes, retweets, shares and cash rolling in.

He's a soulless business reptile.

I dont understand Compassion in World Farming - I used to follow them before they got taken over by the vegans - they used to stand for 'caring' in worldwide farming now its just UK bashing constantly. Shame a charity lost my following ages ago. Be interested in their purpose because in my eyes its not following its original charter.
I'm not sure on that. Joyce de Silver and Philip Lymbery have set out their stall against "factory farming" . I'm not saying or stating what that might mean but I've read Philip's book Farmageddon

I've met him for lunch. He's a vegetarian by choice but is quite rational about where he'd like to be in terms of livestock standards. He's anti sow confinement during lactation and we had a very good discussion around who's welfare he was seeking to assist : the sow, the piglets , the stockman

They campaign on such issues as tail docking etc.

Out of all the NGO's I'd say they are one you can actually rationalise with

Whats his views then on wild animals being shipped into tiny crates onto planes surely thats not pleasant or is that ok? Shipped between zoos - thats not natural? Not forgetting the poor mongrel trapped in the back of the Volvo Estate in a metal crate for 10hrs.

Thats nice to know but the FB page etc isnt pleasant viewing and is constantly UK bashing with no one policing the content. I ditched it after it was solely controlled by the vegans.

I texted Philip this morning saying they weren't doing themselves any favours on the stoplivetransport theme rather than stopliveexport

It may be a few months when we are facing all of Woody Johnson's US food coming in when I next communicate but I'll ask him who has the keys to the FB site . If you go on some of the FB sites like FFA some of that can be pretty gruesome going the other way to be fair

We used to have them in to talk to the agric students. It was always a good debate which the in those days majority of students could relate to their policies and campaigns .

My thoughts exactly it’s a heavily regulated industry even more so since F&M in 2001.
Where has he been all these years I wonder?
I also wonder what his next target is.
Seems enough is never enough with this fellow and I dare say the BBC are in amongst it.

We had a family gathering at the weekend, and at one point I raised Packham objections to corvid control. As soon as I criticised him, 2 of my my urban cousins wives jumped to his defence, saying how much they “love Chris Packham”. The conversation was shut down pretty rapidly when my mother saw me rising to their response. It demonstrated to me just how believed he is by those who know no better, and how much work is going to be needed to somehow discredit him without simply hurling abuse.

I fear he sees himself as the BBC's successor to David Attenborough (who must be getting ready to hang up his binoculars soon) and keeping a high profile will help him get the job.

Packham isn't fit to lace Attenborough's boots but the BBC is run by a lot of lefty leaning luvvies nowadays and they could be daft enough to set him on.

Lord Reith must be turning in his grave :banghead:
