The 'facts' have now changed twice in his constituency, he isn't Labour and he isn't Change... and yet his constituents don't get a people's vote to decide on whether or not they chose the right MP at the last General Election.

And... I heard him interviewed on the radio the other day saying that it was undemocratic to have a new PM without a General Election, what a f*cking hypocrite!

Because when Nick Clegg put his awful 'recall' legislation through, he made damned sure that only the most extreme illegality or contempt of Parliament would see an MP liable to recall, not contempt of constituents... :(
Thanks for that,didn’t know that

Why can’t the people of their constituent recall them?

As I understand it. they can, if teh MP breaks the law or is censured by Parliament. Not sure of what level of censure is required.

However, the local constituents voted for the MP, and NOT as some seem to believe, a Party or Party Leader. Fully agree that the Party the MP banner the MP was voted into office under, does often have sway with a voter. Maybe not so much nowadays??

This is true but, if you listen carefully to a returning officer giving the results for a parliamentary (by)election you'll hear him say 'Joe Bloggs, the XXXX Party' or 'Joe Bloggs the XXXX Party candidate'; that is also written on the ballot paper. It is patently obvious that such things would lead people to believe that they are voting for Joe Bloggs as and XXXX Party candidate.

But you are right as things stand. I think it is a serious flaw in our democracy, and would prefer there to be the option of a recall if someone who stood as one political 'thing' later changes to become something else politically.

Hi, was it really Nick Clegg? I always thought that once elected an MP was in effect for the life of a Parliament regardless of what he did in terms of switching allegiance. Only if he broke certain laws would there be censure. But you suggest Mr Cleggs Fixed Term Parliament Act is at fault. And I thought the reason was to protect MPs from outraged constituents and thus protect our democracy.

Cheers,
