Anyone made any hay yet?

Wouldn’t entertain trying to make hay this week. Snatching a bit of haylage in between is just about doable as it’s starting to senesce it’s not taking a lot of making to get it to 70% DM. Hoping to get ground cleared for a better quality second cut.

Plenty early for haymaking yet. No worries for another month of waiting, it’ll come right. Thank God for the rain, I say.
Grass is a bit behind this year too, even if it was a good forecast it would take a fair bit of making. Grounds saturated and it's started piddling down again here.....

Our hay grass was looking a bit thin and behind earlier on in June, its certainly all there now.

I don't know about anyone else but after last year I think I got so over whelmed and used to how good it was last year I took it as the norm, god, last year was bliss fair play!

Looking back last year we baled the first 99 little bales for someone on the 9th of June, then didn't mow again till the 18th. Then I think we went solidly till 2nd week of August, then miraculously made some 2nd cut haylage on the 1st of September.

So we wont be miles and miles behind but from the forecast I'm looking at so far will be about 8 days, which may not sound a lot but we can get a lot done in 8 days. There wasn't the crop last year so a lot of it didn't take much making at all, where as it's the other way this time so it'll take a bit more throwing around.

Still time for it to dry up and drought yet.

not the way the grass bottoms are yellowing in those fields that wernt shut up late , we have one that is well on the way to be sh--- whatever we do with it so decision made cutter on and wether we end up with hay or wrap is in the lap of the gods ,though we will still have a chance on our second cuts that are now welly top high

Apparently last Tuesday (11th) was the 9th coldest June day going back to 1772 (when the Central England Temperature data series starts) and the maximum temperature reached on Tuesday was the lowest daily maximum on record for a June day, going back to 1878.
June was cold in 2012 when the duck of edinburgh caught a chill at the jubilee

''It'll come right'' 2012 miraculously did, made hay all the way to October.... 2017 however, did not come right at all. Flailed or turned stock into almost half of what should have been cut and baled.
