That's not the reason I would change to electric.

I'd do it to avoid Climate Taxes and the stupid prices for energy.

Climate Change isn't real .. if it was Monaco wouldn't exist nor would most holidays and any other CO2 expensive activity.

Funny how the media isn't full of doom laden prophecies now that the sun has decided to stay away so far this year. Tricky stirring up the hysteria when it's p!ssing down.

Too much money involved for the media and polticians to give up.

I wonder why there was never an idea of using an allowance ?

Where would that leave the Liberal Luvvies and their lifestyles I wonder ? Or people like Phillip Green ? Or RIchard Branson and his Space Tourism ?

Doesn't matter that THEY are costing the Earth.

I agree with your accusations of hypocrisy

That's not very environmentally friendly though; they should put a decent sized turbine on the front to charge it when driving. (y)
Regenerate from braking might work. I wonder if they could tow it to get it moving and then slow down with brakes and put the half mv squared back into the battery. Maybe even tow whilst braking and run the wheels like an alternator. A few cycles and they might be able to limp back to a charge point.

Probably an easier recovery than bleeding the fuel system on an ICE. I wonder if EVs could have a reserve tank system programmed in, like my quad has. That might make it less likely to run 100% empty.
I don't know why they don't have interchangeable batteries, just pull in to a service station and change the battery, can't be beyond the whit of man can it

Yes, if it works for forklifts the concept can't that hard to extrapolate. I suppose theft could be a problem, but they should be fairly easy to make trackable, or they could be made to work like one of those little keypads for internet banking, identify, respond etc. and linked to a registered payment card.

Every car is different, batteries are packaged to fit into the bodywork and have power delivery and charging requirements unique to each model range, a universal battery that fits all will be impractical as far as the manufacturers are concerned. A Tesla is unlikely to perform if constrained by a battery designed to propel a Leaf as well. Batteries are also different, and they lose capacity with time and number of cycles, you might drive 200 miles to a service station, swap the battery and find you have only 150 miles range to return on.

The idea has been mooted many a time but on balance it probably just won't work.

Forklifts are tools that are not sold to the consumer as lifestyle products, completely different and much smaller market.

I believe that the early Teslas may have had the potential to swap out, but with the high current charge stations the battery would now be charged before you’d found the right size spanner, plus of course the battery pack is pretty heavy.

I’m not sure it is necessary and would be any quicker. The rapid charge is pretty good and if there are plenty of those around the country then there’s really no advantage.

Plug in, go to loo, grab tea, pay for charge and you’re away.
does the rapid charge not shorten the life of the battery though
