Couple of nice looking crops around us going into the Suckley Concrete Cow... But they are lighter soils after and extended fallow.

Deffo need a bit of sunshine now I agree...

I grow for a different concrete cow, and a dairy farm. Was invited to an open evening at Suckleys last night, to look at said cow and potato stuff, but I play over 50s football on Wednesday nights.

Yes, a bit of sun and warmth would be nice, but nowt in the wilds of Telford by 9pm... Sucklers back in the yard again, munching hay overnight as it's nicer!!

I think the mower will be stopping on the yard for a few more days... It's feeling like it may be a "knock off the headlands and wrap the bales" type of season, as it'll allow a better haymaking session and I can get going a bit sooner!(y)

The grass contractors will be on long days (and nights) once it picks up again. My 2nd cut is ready!!!

This has got to stop now...... I'm getting to my whits end

Spent all morning in the sunshine yesterday (knowing it was going to rain mind) dosing cattle and getting ready to send the heifers off on their summer jollies. Grand day actually felt like summer, then it started pissing down. Between 2 and 5 it must have put 2 inch of rain down with me at home, the yard washed itself clean and into the tank, I didn't need to scrape off when I was done

When will this end and anyone any tips on how to keep jovial about it all when I feel grass is starting to go to pot now... Don't even want to talk about my reseed

Fortunately dry when I got home

Careful what you read..
On may 28th I read this.. :bookworm:

Early signals are for a much warmer and drier than average month overall for June with the potential for some very warm, or hot blasts of weather.

“Britain is likely to bask in wall-to-wall sunshine for several days in succession on multiple occasions throughout June on current indications.

“High pressure will become the dominant feature as we reach the end of this month and start the meteorological summer.”

Wall to wall rain is probably nearer the truth:confused::ROFLMAO:

Hope you are using all non EU built equipment. You won't want a hiccup getting spares.

We are in a right mess here, lots of spraying to do. Transplanting brassica & 50 acre of hay in small bales to make. We will round bale & wrap some grass this year but can't even do that.

Made a mistake after struggling with cast ewes & maggots and clipped. 2 ewes with mastitis, one an old one cured easily the other a six toother died.

Oddly enougth our heavy land full of cracks is still good to travel on. Light land ready for transplanting brassica is sopping wet.

I haven't sheared and I've had a couple ewes with mastitis in the last week. Not sure it makes much difference tbh?

Spares are a problem for the contractors, the blokes I use generally have half a shed full of them... (y) (Which either does or does not inspire confidence...)

50 acres of small bales! What a pain, but I guess it'll sell well. We've sold a fair lot of hay from last year, which was good.

Because we had such a dry spell before, even after near-non-stop rain for weeks (though only a few real downpours) the lands are fine to drive on, and the grass has rocketed, but what use are either of those if we can't cut it because of the rain? :banghead:
