I have had the roller skimmed down slightly on a couple of Class Variant balers in the past by the rubber roller company at Rotherham,I dont know if they are on the go any more but there are quite a few similar outfits out there, they put the roller in a big lathe that has a special grinding wheel mounted on it and just skimmed a bit off it to remove the unevenness but they said that it was not a big job to recover it,think it cost me £40 to skim whilst I waited and would have been £150-180 to re-cover,It is worth a google and ring around as a new one will be expensive.

Was skimming it effective?

Yes it was,one that I had done had a damaged patch on it and would wrap the net around the roller every few bales and the other one had done a lot of bales and was worn down a couple of mm at the edges and would not spread the net but there was sufficient cover on them to skim this out and still have plenty of rubber covering to work correctly, one baler was sold to a friend and is still going well 7 years later.

Just had one done by Clifton rubber in st Neots Cambridgeshire
Was from memory £350? That’s to re rubber it.
Not used the baler since so can’t say if it worked but the chap said he had done several and all happy.
