Manitou Steering issue

The loader has been fine since the recent mast cylinder re-seal but I had to take it out on the highway to unblock a field access (my grass man wants to start cutting!) and the steering gave me a fright.
I've not noticed anything strange on yard work but keeping straight on the road required continuous anti-clock rotation of the steering wheel.
The steering cylinder had a set of seals while I had the oil drained but no other attention.
Any suggestions where to start?

Orbital unit is a good bet, probably the valves in the top leaking.

take it off and look under it for a Danfoss serial plate which will have the Danfoss part number on it. Even if its still available from manitou due to age of truck it will be way more expensive than buying elsewhere.

OK. Thanks. This will have to wait as I have 2 ton tree stumps blocking field highway access and my grass man has nothing suitable to move them:-( Pesky traveller/fly tippers!) I can do it from the field side but it means running through the crop. Around 6000 hours now so I suppose it doesn't owe me anything.

Hmm. Manitou have carefully coated the unit in red paint. See photo.
Leaking valves mentioned above, is that internal? Are they user seviceable?
Suction filter and steering pump might be checked without taking the machine out of use. 6000 hours and no service to my knowledge. How likely is that?

regards

pedant mode on/

Its Orbitrol - which is a hydrostatic steering system and a trademark of the Eaton corporation

Other hydrostatic steering systems are available that are not Orbitrol.

/pedant mode off

the number is almost visible, there's a few letters in front of that "100 ON" which is the Danfoss part number.

The valves are on the top so you cant get to them with out removing it and I doubt you will see or be able to do anything with them? never bothered messing with orbital units IMO just fit a new one, maybe only changed half dozen or so in 20 years?
