Exactly so. Society is being lulled into a state of total surveillance by commerce rather than government, but we can be sure that the government has the access it wants to the data.

Those who mistakenly think Britain is a haven of liberty need to read this -

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/uk-police-facial-recognition?

Yep, that's a man arrested and charged for not exposing his face to police cameras in a public place. At least Orwell's character could keep his back to the telescreen, but even that is not allowed in the modern day UK.

Boris? a good man around a barrel, but no cooper, personally I think there must be a lot of lead piping in Westminster, madness would appear to be prevailing, more bull than Bullingdon.

The more one discovers about the fellow who reported this, and his rather unpleasant wife, the less harm it will do Boris with anyone remotely supportive of him; those against him being already unlikely to change their minds.

I wonder how long it will be before this delicate flower, Tom Penn, or his own dear lady are recorded doing or saying something that will be worthy of a) reporting to the police, and / or b) releasing to a newspaper.

He may be an easily frightened snowflake of note (or just claim to be...), but it seems that she may be a genuinely 'nasty piece of work' - oh, the irony - and it will be poetic / playwritten justice should she be exposed as such - if they don't think that the press will be after them, they will be in for a shock.

I think it's done Boris more good than harm .its made the Press look stupid and vindictive,
That niebour has had it on for him for a while ,
Public are getting behind him

Excluding what he was doing to his partner, he needs to up his game if yesterday was anything to go by. Even taking into account he was speaking to the Tory gammons, it came across as rambling, jingoistic claptrap. Hunt on the other-hand at least seems to understand the magnitude of the problem facing the party and country. But plenty more opportunities to go.

Interesting times. Hunt would normally be a shoe in: son of an admiral, grandson of a major in the Punjab Regiment, distant relation to Betty, founder of a business that netted him £14m and so on and so forth. He ticks all the boxes that would otherwise have the Tory hearts pounding, but he is a remainer, so it's full steam ahead with Boris at the helm.

I prefer Jeremy Hunt , but just know he'll bottle brexit like his predecessor .

Reading through his Wikipedia entry I get the impression that he didn't really grasp the basic tenets of medical care despite being the longest serving health secretary. His comments on meningitis and weekend cover were just not thought through and although I can sympathise with the idea that modern medicine is far too drug reliant backing homeopathy was never going to win him the adoration of health professionals. He also seems to have discovered the arrogance of the EU only after the brexit vote when it had been apparent to many for years, a slightly opportunistic conversion one might think. So yes, I think you are right in assuming he hasn't the visceral belief in brexit to see it through, he appears just too superficial and bereft of conviction to carry out the task.

Mrs HM was a healthcare professional under him for a few years, and rates him above others she has worked under. He lasted there longer than most and left to go higher up the tree rather than lower. Her verdict is that the NHS is constantly being meddled with and needs a period without change to allow it to stabilise.

I'd agree entirely with your good lady, it is a huge political football which governments just can't resist kicking around.

I'm not the greatest fan of Boris but Master Penn strikes me as something of a poo stirring fellow with limited horizons.
