what do you call benefits ? money paid directly to you from some form of government or would you include government services ?
some people may get money from government but won't use government services much so won't be costing as much tax money as some that rely heavily on government services

I think there is far more to benefits than just the cash you get or don't get

Fair comment. I was referring to dole/ tax credits etc. but missed all the things you mentioned. I have use of the police, refuse collection, roads, nhs etc, like everyone else. I also have a small bps claim each of the past five years, and got a student loan and free university tuition about 25 years ago.

Thats the real world Wanton, welcome aboard.

I could take the "Norman Tebbit" approach to your statement but you did get on your bike and work globally (you say) yet your skill set in todays market is worth £500 a day, however you seem to think that a small family farm (or any business for tgat matter) has a god given right to make a good living.

To be blunt if you cant make a living at one thing stop and do something else.

What I'm on about is the fact politics can destroy jobs using taxes, legislation and regulation.

IMHO everyone deserves a fair crack at a good life using the skills "God Gave Them".

A classic example is Theresa May's willingness for the UK to be at the forefront of "Climate Change" .. that's okay for her to say so .. but she is at the end of her working life and has had all the benefits of a 1st world tax & education system. She has a massive chance not only to screw up adults but also children and their children.

So no I don't agree with your analysis .. everyone deserves a fair crack WITHOUT the negative influence of the UN, EU & HMG.

Well if we had a proper industrial strategy 10 years ago we would be leading and delivering the environmental technology to the world and the associated jobs and opportunities would be massive... but we just couldn't be arsed.

I have spent my working life finding routes around people, problems, organisations that just didn't want me (or the likes of me) progressing.

The problem you identify is real and i agree with you, the difference is i recognise that this "problem" includes the Tory and Labour Party and is made real by JC, Boris,JRM etc. And it will never change unless our society goes full "Anarchy" and the last time the working class "offered out" the govt was the miners strike and look how the state utilised its assets to suppress that conflict.

No amount of lies from Farage, Boris or anyone will change this, you nor me is control of all aspects of our life and to get that control you would have to go back to the stone age.

I think the full anarchy is a bit far fetched.

Social media has a chance to turn things around .. but I think it's been recognised as a "Danger" to vested interests.

Miners strike got changed into Scargill's communist fantasy unfortunately.

Well regardless of Arthur's objectives the suppression was brutal and vindictive. One day there will be a Hillsborough type enquiry, probably in ten years.

The moral of the story is don't pick fights you cant win and brexit is one of those.

Arthur Scargil trashed Barnsley not Margaret Thatcher.

Maggie saved us, mob rule is not the answer.

Arthurs daughter lives near me, she was a local GP. Not a huge fan of her own Dad, well thought of as a Doctor. She and her husband have a very nice ex farmhouse in an expensive post code.

Arthur started with a small house & a large union. He ended up with a large house & a small union.

The current leader of the NUM, hates Scargill.

Well there are a few folks in the North East that may disagree, but its history now but not forgotten.

The only difference between the two mobs involved was one had a uniform.
