Anyone made any hay yet?

I cut three fields for haylage last year, the rest being short, lush grass but made fantastic hay easily enough. From the same three fields baled last Friday, we had 300 bales. Last year they did 120 bales, albeit better quality (17%CP). I just hope there’s a market for it....

I suspect you are like us, and any hay market is going westwards. Based on all the decent crops beyond Newtown, I think the demand may be modest...

Horses can only eat so much!

Piddling down with rain here, onto ground that is already sodden. No chance in hell any hay would make, even if it's 32 degrees on top. It would et steamed, not dried.

Wet yesterday morning when I got up. Weather warning for thunderstorm (didn't get anything) giving showers on friday and saturday so glad I didn't mow any. Supposed to be dry today till thursday and it was raining while I took my daughter to playgroup. Fingers crossed for some nice weather for longer than 3 days

I caught Springwatch one evening and they were kicking off about farmers mowing grass and how these Modern farm practises need to change

Went and had a look in the Bramble patch and found this... eventually!

Unfortunately, it was set up for rowing up, and the pivots to flip the rotor over for "tedding" were seized solid! Bit surprised, as I make a point of greasing the machines like this, BEFORE putting away... I guess that it must have been a year or two longer than I thought since it was put into store!:(

It was intended for flicking over the mown swathes for overnight drying where the swath has been lying on teh wet ground..... I

t might well be going back to bed if the Plus Gas fails to work overnight! I cannot be arsed to free them with a OxyPropane spanner!!

I am VERY aware of their limitation.... limitations even!
