Contractor had a Tarrup years ago with a conveyor on the back that put 2 rows together.
Produced lots of effluent
Not my 1st choice machine
& the buck rake man took until Xmas to get rid of his stiff neck .Not the heaviest crop in the world which has been mown dry and now has strong sunshine on it. Main aim of the game is reduction of soil contamination.
Years ago the standard silage gang round here was Tarrup Auto Swather mower followed by a Class 690/682? chopper. Two 8 ton West trailers pulled by 2wd Ford 6610 and clamped by a Ford 4wd drive 8210 on a Grays buckrake. Wish we had some photos!

I'd rather a stiff neck, than waste on the sides due to buckrake on the front linkage& the buck rake man took until Xmas to get rid of his stiff neck .

How does having it on the front cause waste?
You can't roll the sides any senseHow does having it on the front cause waste?
We seem to manage no bother. You can't roll the sides any sense
Must be the muppets I've used previouslyWe seem to manage no bother.

I used to roll sides with the front wheel and get them like concrete
TruePlenty of folk will just shove the grass up the pit and that's it, the location of the buckrake will make no difference.

View attachment 817882 Back to the future on this one. Hopeing the auto swather will reduce soil contamination which has been an issue with rakes on fresh seeds on peat ground.
