Potato price 2018

Was there any damage done to the potatoes where they had the most rain?

Some poor souls have lost crop especially around Wainfleet and the surrounding area. Elsewhere in South Lincolnshire it is low holes and patches where water stood that plants have died. Difficult to assess combined area lost. Maybe it equates to the extra area planted compared to 2018? However, on the flip side of crop losses the whole of South Lincolnshire non irrigated crops (the majority of the area) has had a lovely soak and will leave the month of June with soil at full field capacity. Haulm has perked up in past week. So a timely rain. Few more rains in July and we possibly looking at a big crop. Hey ho.

Haven’t seen any here, spraying weekly for it. Have used Infinito, zorvec these past couple of wks.

Our spuds seem to be all top and no bottom form where I’ve pulled a few.

Very low tuber numbers, how’s are everyone else’s?

Potatoes at tuber initiation just now up here, putting in foliar P with blight sprays to boost numbers ( have always done this)

Despite potatoes being planted 3 weeks earlier than last year they are probably a week behind where they were this time last year. ( cold and wet May and June)Hopefully this heat will help them push on now.

Hopefully everyone else will have low tuber sets too. Need something to help the free buy price this winter.

Was hearing merchants paying anything between £190-230 for Shropshire/Cheshire/Lancs chippers on Friday (mainly Accord)................seems to have been a concerted push to pull prices under £200 ASAP and looks like it's been acheived...........
