First there was one..

..and then there were two.

The calf fairy hath been, not really holding out too many hopes for the wee brown fella as he went a couple of days unseen and has joint ill. Both twins, both bulls  but both free to a good home.View attachment 831878
Chicory is waking up, which says spring must be here.

It also says that I need to harden up, I haven't felt warm all day today.
The love was for the chicory , gonna leave it to go to flower this year,?

My dogs eat grain. Or beet pellets or bread or chicken food or hay... whatever takes their fancy.

They’re free range.
Mine are partial to soil , grass and poo ( all sorts. favourite is definitely young calf:wtf:) They will also roll in all three. I wonder if they have a nutrient deficiency or if they’re just being dogs

Whats that off?
Driver on the phone?
Just an old 4 axle trailer, it should have been retired years ago but is (was!) handy enough for hauling fert back from Awarua.
Unbeknownst to anyone, the top ram pin must have been cracked for a long time, and the bigger half shook out while travelling down the blacktop - a car following swung out into view and flashed the driver.

We're only pleased that
A. We didn't have 15 tonne of super on it
B. It didn't let go while tipping 15 tonne of super off!!

as luck would have it, it was being towed home empty as the fert order had been cancelled after the rig left the yard, we just tied the ram back up with straps and carried on.
Was really great timing, as if it hadn't worn down by the railway crossing at Edendale it would have possibly dug in, and tipped the trailer over.
We do have an elderly 3 axle trailer with the same rams on it, so we'll swap them over and retire the 3 axle to the scrapheap - we used it as a spare fert bay at times when we have a lot of custom mixes and run out of storage.

Yes, will aim to let it all run and then transfer the seed out in bellies, so as to have little chaos gardens of different species around the place - it's why we went for a pasture brome/ prairie grass / cocksfoot/ timothy grass mix, make good Maori hay.

It beats me how anybody can eat a hare after gutting it. The smell is way to much for me!
No wonder you’re supposed to soak them in Guinness for so long before cooking, it takes at least that long to get over the smell.
Smell is pretty powerful, I simply couldn't eat mutton when I was on the lamb chain at Finegand, it wasn't the smell of the meat but the stale cooking smell didn't sit well.
Next morning, smell gone, cold meat sandwiches were just fantastic.. so I know what you mean!
Hare, I cook similar to duck; score the deepest meat and rub in salt and apricot jam, into an oven bag to keep the juices in.

Lovely! :hungry:

They are like small deer. I put the cuts in olive oil and soy sauce and cook them on the BBQ To good for the dogs.
