Farmer Roy's Random Thoughts - I never said it was easy.

Im a 737 dash 8 man and long haul i love 787, get out feeling good, landed yesterday, spread fert with 4 wheeler today.

Sorry Roy, i got rain coming, and everyone guilted me into ferting and not allowed to have a day off after month holiday...so begrudgingly i went and spread.

Cant complain but, i appreciate rain.

For those in the UK who feel unappreciated by the general public - the Captain on the Sydney / Melbourne flight made an announcement about how Qantas support Australian farmers & would match $ for $ any amounts paid into drought support charities & encouraged people to be generous

Weekend ( wedding anniversary ) in Melbourne

I know there is a lot of aviation hatred in TFF - but I love flying
From home to Melbourne is over 1000 km & at least 12 - 14 hours non stop driving
We have driven 50 mins to Tamworth, an hour to fly to Sydney via a De Haviland Dash 8 then about an hour & a half to Melbourne via Boeing 737
I find the people that live close to a lot of things are the ones that hate on aviation more.

When I was in Winnipeg last week we flew there. A 2 hour flight vs a 15 hour drive. Now multiply that 15 hour drive by however many cars it would take for us all to get there.

I am not a fan of flying. I don’t do it often. But it does have uses for sure.

They to noisy, i fly weekly, when i flew to munich and back just now, 787 melb to ubby dubby then A330 ubby dubby to munich, chalk and cheese.

They like a land rover....

Have flown 787 and A350 long haul. I’d say A350 has the edge on comfort and noise... just! Not much in it though, both very nice. A380 not quite as nice but still the most amazing plane to see up close.

You should have passed your hat around Roy and cut the middle man out. After all Joyce doesn't need any extra on top of his 23 million salary....

I don't have views on which are the quieter planes, I try not to use any really rather hard - in Europe Eurostar is more orient express compared to air propelled cattle truck. I try to use my bicycle rather than cars. My house is poorly insulated, soon to be far better.

I often get the feeling that I am alone in thinking that changing my behaviour changes everything. Hopefully by writing this is will make a small change. I can't do this alone.
We only get one World, use it wisely. Farmer Roy may soon be all of us.

Well its flogging down in Portland now, so melb will have it just after lunch. Im smiling after getting fert out, i wasnt smiling at the time. I only wish this swung north!!

If the low rain dont get you, Frost seems to be the new hail....WA got belted along with SA....this one is a real worry as frost incidence seems to be increasing rapidly. Or did it happen as much in 70's cool period but not as much cropping going on, more livestock based?

Has everyone bought there lithium shares and nickel, etc, battery makers, its coming right or wrong.

Unfortunately consumption wont be addressed by looks in climate change debates so i cant get on board with the whole thing, its robbing peter to pay paul. Until this is challenged not much will change, alot of claims will be made about reducing carbon emmission from 1 industry and not spoke about the increase in others.

787 fuel burn is 5790kg per hour, or avg 890km.
330 passengers if full say avg 300
Thats 19.3 kg per person per 890km
19.3kg x 1.2 litres = 23.16 litres per 890km

Reasonably effective

Its not that planes are so bad its the fact there so many of them and flights per capita have increased dramatically because of lowered costs.

They have a very good service life, better than cars id suggest....

The concern for me is recyclablability with goods. Not sure after 25 years what u can do with plane, surely something has to happen one day rather than stack up in nevada desert.

I just try to reduce my carbon footprint, heating, travel and food.
Finding politicians that would support this approach and make it so everyone has to do it is far harder. :-(
