Wet conditions direct drilling option

I might be being a bit thick but why is a tine drill any better than a lightweight disc drill. If its kind ground, i rarely find that the unidrill smears the slot and the discs and coulters keep reasonably clean if you maintain a decent speed. The unidrill disc works deeper than the tine coulter part leaving a bit of margin for drainage.
If I didn't have sticky clay I would be cracking on with the unidrill on untouched light soils. With a bit of trash about, the press wheels wont squeeze the living daylights out of it or cap it either.
I cant see a tine drill doing any good at all on clay. A smeared seed slot and big twirls of butter or clods more like. And then there are the tractor wheelings. At one time an MF165 was considereda heavy drilling tractor. Now folks think nothing of going on with a 300 hp monster that weighs more than a road roller. I'd also slug pellet before drilling. Have seen seed hollowed overnight before now in bad conditions.

Anyway, enough of that and I hope it works.

I find a disc can smear when (very) wet on our soil type

bit mostly I’ve done this with tines because I have a lightweight tine toolbar but not a lightweight disc toolbar to choose from right now and did want to go out and buy anything

I’m thinking of having a go at some wheat on untouched bean land with the KV turbo/ sabre tine drill we use for winter beans . 200mm row spacing .

All the ingenious devices are coming out the woodwork. This is why I like the forum it highlights what a creative bunch farmers are, and have an amazing ability to think on there feet when the chips are down and also how there is no one right answer.

I'll confess, I normally direct drill, but I bought a plough, a power harrow and an MF30 when the wet weather started. Not for huge money. This will be easy I thought. But it didn't stop raining and
now its so wet here that they are staying in the shed for the time being. There is a limit.
Wish I hadn't changed horses, but good luck and respect to those still trying. (y)

How much is a drill as above, new ????

12 m avatar 10-12k /m dependant on spec and exchange rates as at last year, Brexit may have inflated that already though I suspect - narrow version (different "on top" hopper configuration and row spacing ) are more / m I believe

the CO6 was .................. significantly less!
