I have an ash tree that needs to come down. How much should it cost me to get someone qualified to cut it down, logs and rings?

Paid £300 recently, though it was entwined with some phone lines, and was rotting inside.
Double to 4x that depending on size and location, insurance is the biggest cost

How big is it and what is around it. If it was me I'd pay a professional to cut it down and chop the rest up myself when time allowed. Depends how hefty it is.

Is it close to buildings ,roads ,cables ,could it be cut and dropped in one
I'd be getting in a 16 tonner and shear then.

Also depends whether it has dieback. Some tree surgeons are now refusing to dismantle ash and using aerial platforms or tree shears instead,
A Mature Ash doesn't need to have dieback to be unpredictable.

My local company crowned a huge willow last year and that was £850 and they left everything as the customer said he would burn it ,,if it had gone through the chipper it was going to be twice as much and that was still cheap as another gang quoted £2500 to floor the tree and take everything away ,,you wont get any tree work done round here for less than £500
£100hr 4 hr minimum each shift lowloader costs, plus £35hr digger 4hr minimum costs = £940,

Thanks for your replies. A friend cut it down, but would not say how much he wanted, so now I have a fair idea how much cash to give him!

I have never, ever, felled any decent sized ash that did not have butt rot - always fell the way the tree naturally wants to go if at all possible, if that is not possible then get some really good purchase on the tree ( a decent sized digger is a good option), set the gob in, get some good weight on the felling direction and go in with the felling cut SLOWLY - watch for the sawdust going black and when it does be ready for the crack!

Plenty of big sticks and perfectly fine inside.
We use a winch.
They can split unpredictably.
