Labour party announce plans to nationalise Openreach telecoms network

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s opposition Labour Party plans to nationalize BT’s broadband network to provide free internet for all if it wins power, making a radical election pledge to roll back 35 years of private ownership that caught both the company and its shareholders by surprise.

Labour’s proposed overhaul of the telecoms infrastructure, an addition to its already broad nationalization plan, would be paid for by raising taxes on tech firms such as Alphabet’s Google, Amazon and Facebook and using its Green Transformation fund.
The announcement by Labour, which is currently lagging Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservatives in opinion polls ahead of the Dec. 12 election, sent BT’s shares down as much as 3.7%, wiping nearly half a billion pounds off its market value. The share was down 1.7% at 1410 GMT.

Free broadband whilst you wipe out the value of my shares, thanks mate.

perhaps you are not old enough to remember British Telecom.
Welcome to shared lines, where you can join in your neighbours phone calls.
make it illegal to own a mobile phone.
and wait for months if not years for your own phone line
That’s very kind of you but I think I’m one of the oldest contributors to this forum. I’m actually old enough to remember when the GPO we’re responsible for phone lines.

If anyone was unsure how fudgein deluded Corbyn and Mcdonnell are , they know now .

Absolute nutters
Watching JM’s interview with Laura yesterday and his view on nationalisation and the need for hard nosed economics reminded me of Robin Hood. Take from the rich and give to the poor. Now I know it’s not that simple and many organisations under pay on corporation tax, but his comments reminded me of our land in the late 60’s and 70’s when comrade politics killed UK business from which we’ve never really recovered! Those two scare me!!

You don’t understand Venn diagrams, do you?

Load of bollox , basically any scenario can be proved from a Venn .

A Venn diagram (also called primary diagram, set diagram or logic diagram) is a diagram that shows all possible logical relations between a finite collection of different sets. These diagrams depict elements as points in the plane, and sets as regions inside closed curves.

Venn diagrams were in fashion when I was at school. Thought it was bollox then and haven't changed my opinion.

If you think private telecoms are crap you aren't old enough to remember how crap British Telecom were. We had to drive round to the neighbour's to tell them to put the handset back properly and could listen in on their calls. And nobody gived a stuff cos they got paid anyway. I am on 4g broadband now. Given up on hardwired. It's as dead as corduroy.
