It's amazing how it is concentrated in areas, in county Mayo which is north west and never benefited from foreign investment within 15 miles , we have Mchales, Malone , Major , Cashels and Agrispread , and then in the south east , in Carlow , we have Tanco , Keenan , Dooley, Braughan , Smith and A&W engineering , and many more smaller companies , I'm based in the midlands and I've solved the problem of keeping baler and wagon knives razor sharp with the best Sharpner on the market known as www.agriknives.ie
No foreign investment? Are you sure about that?

There are a lot of excellent engineering companies in Ireland . A great concentration of them in County Carlow. Which although a small county has a relatively large no of firms at such work . A lot of these skills were learned In the Sugar Company.
Smyth Trailers , HiSpec . Burnside Engineering (manufacture hyd rams for most of Irish machinery ". JAP Engineering.

I'm often asked what's the differance in the sharpening machine I designed and the Goweill machine that is the market leader , I say it's very simple , the Goweill was designed by an engineer and mine is designed by a man who sharpens knives.

Hmmm. Not sure that sounds as good as you think it does..

Maybe part of the reason for making goodish stuff is what the irish operatir throws at it ?....wet heavy crops, rough men, wet ground, rushed work, minimal maintenance...an ideal proving ground?
c.mon
some of us know what a grease gun is
what an oil change is
what routine maintenance is
i have to do and pay for my own repairs
mostly on s/hand gear
on the other hand
irish conditions
thats why its a proving ground
if equipment can withstand irish conditions
it can withstand the toughest

Irish crops would test any machine. Was talking to vicon man few years ago and he told me out of all the countries they sell equipment into that North of Dublin has the most warranty claims and see stuf break in that never breaks elsewhere so make of that what you will
