Hi all,

I have 3 pure hereford heifers 24-26 month old and a pedigree lim 20 months old that I have fattened and now finished for killing. Just wondering what people find the best option for finished cattle, whether it be taking straight to the slaughter house or sending to market or anything else.
Just after some opinions.

Thanks!

Where are you based, What are your options for live markets and slaughterhouses, are there any local butcher buyers or farm shops who are looking for your type of Cattle? Are you a victim of the Farm Assurance racket?
All depends which one is likely to rob you.

Any photos of them?

Are you farm assured? All the big slaughterhouses require farm assurance. If you're not FA, market or local butchers. The thing to watch with the herefords if you're selling deadweight is that they are not overfat, otherwise you will end up with big penalties on them

Sell live and thrive, if there good heifers that might make cows maybe put then through the ring......a farmer looking for billing heifers will give more than killing price of they suit

Your lim will sell well through a market. Not sure the Herefords will though, Bakewell have the odd buyer for them but not often. Perhaps best to take them either to dunbia on the Hereford scheme or speak to a local butcher who does Herefords.

Not if their fit to kill. More likely to buy heifers for cows through the store ring

Sell them through a store ring, 9/10 times they make fat price if not more especially if two men fall out over cattle! Going dead weight your given what one man wants to give

Depends on what your looking for, markets around me would be whitland, llandovery Carmarthen and Brecon, Brecon with top notch quality cattle (shapey) but places like carms whitland would be more dairy bred, but llandovery offering more farming cattle, each have something to offer and suit everyone......billing heifers could be 800+ in carms but you'd be looking at 1000+ in Brecon horses for courses
