OK ... I am not overly excited at the moment either as the clock wasn't set up correctly and it ran when it shouldn't and has already picked a fight with the tub mixer. And although the installer hasn't finished (back tomorrow), they didn't leave the destructions so we are having to guess how to manually drive it :(

To date the pusher is not going well.
Install not completed although there has been issues with staff sickness so going to let that pass as promised all will be done tomorrow
However, it seems incapable of completing a circuit of the existing route without stopping as it is far too sensitive to a cow butting it or trying to bite it as it passes. Brings it to a total stop and it alarms itself. Could solve it by making it run further off feed face but then it wouldn’t push at all :banghead:

Therefore, does anyone know how to desensitise it so it ignore the cows?
(There are already tooth marks in the plastic )
The Lely had an electrified ring to stop this

Are they honestly worth the mither? We will push silage up 7/8 times a day, last time usually 10.30 at night so thats the big stint with no pushing up until morning milking then, would I see a yield increase on a pretty mediocre system?

Is there now way you can turn your feed faces into concrete troughs, bunkers and spew tmr into them, we have changed to this this winter and now cows hardly leave any waste and has saved us much time pushing up silage, yet to clean troughs out as cows lick clean just about, just leave stones and any foreign objects!

For Sale 600 careful lady owners.
On a serious note if you find a way to stop the biting do let me know. We’ve a toddler who I’d be more afraid of her biting the cows than them hurting her.

Yes they are, wouldn’t be without mine, same as you used to push up nearly every hour from 8 am till pm milking them last thing at night, nearly 4 years now and it’s been no bother

Did the same here for youngstock and going to do the same for milkers, works brilliant.

On another not we have got some metal and some wooden feed troughs and are forever forking those out, I think correct design is key

troughs can very quickly become full of shitty feed, we clean all ours out twice a week and probably don't get more than a small wheelbarrow full every fortnight but it still makes a difference to intakes. looks a smart job, whose troughs ?

Can anyone recommend a bolus for cows in the dry period carrying twins, cows that are on the fatter side and/or cows at risk of retaining cleansings. Thanks.

West Country concrete, not the nicest finish on the outside but good enough and I haven’t found any others similar in design that I like, also had some panels from them but there nowhere near as nice as the Jones brothers panels just a shame they don’t make troughs. on the resin front I could never get a company interested in coming to do it so we are waiting until summer and then we are going to fibreglass them ourselves I think

I just noticed, you’ve given that shed some interesting surgery!

Original plan was to put up with the steels in the back of the beds but when it came to it I couldn’t bear to look at that for the next however many years so go onto my shed builder and we came up with that. It’s an old shed we’ve inherited which was structurally sound just needed the internals updating

What was the reason for not having another lely? I bet the cow that killed killer is now biting ya pusher. Some fiery cows you've got there

Beginning to wonder that myself. Put off by the strips as we would have to cut into the concrete to embed them this time whereas the Joz was a simple matter of drilling holes every 2m.

Jerseys are by nature curious. Bite, butt, lick, rumble with pleasure in that order
