N sensor at 36 m tramlines

questions are, how wide is the area a blue N sensor scans and do 36 m tramlines really get the best from a variable rate application system.
I'll add that I am a liquid N user

I have never used a N Sensor so can’t comment. I have used drone and satellite imagery at 36m with liquid N and found the dose rates actually work out higher than the recommendation most of the time. It tends to default to the highest dose on the boom not the lowest.

Arguably we ought to consider varying the doses between sections - a controlled traffic system would require more N behind where the combines travelled and less furthest away, regardless of whether the straw is chopped or spread or what brand of machine you have. 36m is quite crude when you consider the number of localised canopy variations within the boom width and you could argue that a spinning disc is even more so.

Flawed technology. Your sensing a small area compared to the area your booms are covering. Unless you can make it sense the full 36m in 1m increments and then alter the volume of product coming out of each 1m section then there’s no point. Even more pointless with a granular fert spreader.

The new als 2 scans up to 4.2m wide each side of the machine and this gives an approximate total scan area of 50m2. All been well we are getting the new als 2 for this spring. Am on 30m and it works very well for us.

We are looking at it too on 36m liquid. How do you know it’s working for you? Like the idea but can’t see how we can measure the success.

Can see its putting it where its needed and holding it back in the lush/thick areas. You can see it on the display matching with such areas. It doesn't necessarily save on fert it just puts it where it needs to be. Chances are you will also get a comment from combine driver as it feeds better due to it been more consistent crop, our combine driver noticed that.

As it's a sprayer its calibrated in that way, you can roughly work out how much you need and can always carry it over if any left. We fill up the tanks in the summer when it's cheaper. It's not far out really from just putting it on without the n-sensor but the important thing is that its putting it on where its needed!

I meant how do you stop it applying an average of 125 kg/ha of N when you were thinking of 100 kg/ha N? I use SOYL and I can tweak the average rates per block of fields according to what I want to roughly apply in the office before going out. Hope that makes sense.

When we used one, which admittedly was a long while ago now, you could set the lower and higher figures to do as you suggest. I don’t think absolute mode was around at that point.

Ah sorry misunderstood you, like mentioned you set a min and max limit and leave it to the machine to sort itself out. On osr we just leave it on absolute mode and just leave it to machine to put whatever on in 2 passes. Hopefully will be trying absolute mode on wheat this spring.
