Where Does All This Stolen Plant, Tractors, Cars Go?

i was under attack 2 years ago, first attempt to steal my toyota hilux was twarted because they were disturbed, they had come round back of a field and we were woken up by animals out? anyway talking to my cousin whos in the motortrade he said that they would be back and sure enough two weeks later a gang found my vechicle hidden in barn pushed it out and broke gates open and stole it? my question is this, are these thefts to order do they end up abroad and if so surely the ports and checks should be put into place? comments please

Ports don't check every container, probably not even 10%. And they certainly don't VIN against number plates.

As i understand port check are more heavy on imports not so much on exports, so they get out fairly easy, not sure of this as its only what ive heard but makes some sense.

Easter europe north africa i would guess.

I doubt that Ireland is quite the market for stolen kit that many think it is. Cars have to be reregsitered over here and the UK number and paperwork surrendered which is a deterrent although by no means foolproof. Neither do I hear talk of stolen kit coming in, the farming community loves a good gossip and rumours of dodgy tractors or implements would be rife if they were around in any great number. Ireland does import a lot of used machinery, tractors mainly, but it doesn't follow that it's all nicked from the UK, farmers can afford honest equipment nowadays.

I read less than 1% of containers get checked as they are being imported into UK, I doubt anything is checked on the export side and I doubt many if any container originating from the UK are checked entering Europe. Some vehicles probably just drive on to ferry using cloned plates

I think some African countries have pretty high import tarrifs on vehicles so would be more likely to get checked on import than into Eastern Europe... but then it is still just a case of slipping a few dollars to the right people....
 
Where does it go first though? IMO this stuff doesnt go far. A local farmer was renting out sheds a while back they think a gang was going this before breaking up and shipping out. Issue was he took cash and no details. Nice job mate. Things like tractors cant go far, vehicles can have cloned plates put on but big stuff is local until shipped.

I have it from reliable police sources that machines with trackers fitted are frequently located in this area... I guess those involved must live nearby, if only the police could work out where and take action.... :rolleyes:

If a geneticist could breed a strain of geees that didn't constantly sh!t everywhere, most of us would keep a few as watchdogs and ready meals.

And if someone pinches a modern tractor, how do they gain access to its computer system to effect any repairs?

Trackers are brilliant. I’ve got a JCB 320S loader that conked out the other day. It is on JCB Livelink. I rang the dealer and he went on his computer and immediately saw that the fuel rail pressure was too low, caused by a failing electric pump on top of the filter. It told him that they has a modified brushless motor in stock and exactly where the machine was to come and fix it.
An hour and a half later, It was up and running again.

I’ve been up to to JCB World Parts centre and seen their giant screen, showing exactly where in the world all their machines are, if moving how fast, what the temperature of all the fluids are, how much of each fluid is in them, when it was last serviced, etc.

OK so long as the technology doesn’t cause the breakdown.

Volvo are the same ,live link to head office monitoring every move a machine makes ,service fitter can tell where a machine is

I was told by police the checks on containers leaving the country is virtually nil unless there is some in obviously suspicious or they have intelligence.
The ports just want things in and out as quickly as possible.
