The "Hoofproof" 5 litre ones from APS are good for feed we remove the handles from the feed buckets anyway, so securing an instant refund of their scrap value. They are not big enough for water.
Their bigger ones are too small bottomed to be stable for water buckets, we use 9 litre blue buckets that look very like those Lamina ones from Mole I think.

I also made a few hayracks to do away with the need for buckets with silage in them.

You can also nail two hurdles together with two 6''? spacers between them - one at each end. You can then stuff leafs of hay or haylage down the space.

You only need one double hurdle every second pen, just like with a hayrack, so it doesn't significantly reduce the space in each pen.

Paying to get rid of plastic tubs? Put 0.5t away in December and no charge. They must have an end use for recycling them before that’s the case

Bigger and better version of the Shearwell ones! I went to follow the same design but using the measurements of the all metal IAE ones last year. Started drawing it onto a piece of ply board and had a phone call saying STOP as dad just bought 50 for £13.40 each brand new IAE ones from the merchant. Still got quite a few unused but it was a no brainer to buy them over making them especially with none of the materials on farm.

Yes you wouldn’t start to make them if you can buy them at that price. I made mine the width of a small bale so that a leaf could be slid in on each side in one piece.

This is how my pens are watered. When I took on a bit of ground the previous tenant had left a large number of buckets lying about the place so it was even cheaper than buying the tubs full ;);)
Lengths of light flat bar bent into shape and they hang on the hurdles. Water stays clean and the lambs often lie under them out of the way from the ewe.

Any chance of a photo showing how the bar is fixed on? Looks good, but when I’ve tried to do similar it hasn’t been successful.
