Talking to auctioneer last week he said 6 dispersal don't think 6 would add up to 1000 though
There is no way that suckler cows pay up here if they are housed 6-7 months of the year.Granted, the calves are tremendous, but they are all creep fed,and then stuffed with cake to get them to look that good before sale. The BPS and SFpayment before that has been subsidising them for years. Take that away, and no one is going to work and lose money.Sheep look a better bet at the moment, and you are not likely to get killed working on with them.

But sheep don't work in isolation - the ground soon gets sheep sick.

Suckler cows should be a means of utilising/improving rough grass in particular to produce a saleable calf. If folk manage them like that, no wonder they're throwing in their hand.

One thing that occured to me today , how many marts pay by cheque ? the post could be suspended at some point , sedge does as does frome , maybe its time they started paying by BACS ,in fact i wonder why they all dont ?,must be a saving on postage and paperwork , sedge always sends a mail of prices , i really dont mind the week delay in payments , as they need buyers cheques to clear first , would save me a trip to bank as well .
One reason always was that they will need more finance if they pay by bacs as all will go out their account within a week. You would be surprised by the amount of farmers who sit on cheques for weeks before cashing them.

Haha are you keeping the side up for me when I’m not there?
There are plenty cattle go through like yours, and even more excitable. There was a Charolais Bull next to mine, and he looked a bad tempered blighter.Stock Bulls should be dead quiet. If they are not,it just comes through in their calves.I was pleased to get mine away.He was no where near good enough for a stock bull, although quiet enough at home.

Our beast are usually quiet at home. You can walk around them and put your hand on them and they will sometimes stand no bother. Just when you do something different things change

We find Angus x dairy are like that.

Dad calls them gremlins, they are beautiful, docile animals when you feed/clean the pens out. Try and and put them through the crush and they turn into lunatic monsters!

Ten minutes later when I walk through them they are trying to lick the hood off my jacket.

That's exactly what my wife says...remembering that I broke my leg 7 years ago because of a cow

Been in hospital outpatients a few times because of them plus many other injuries more minor
In laws have just about pure Lims. I didn’t know what crazy cattle were until I started stepping art with their daughter. I have stressed many a time they need to get something more controllable but it falls on deaf ears! They have had broken bones black eyes etc from being tossed over walls by them and kicking gates etc, I guess they have had too much country air - the cattle and the in laws!

Does as much lamb generally get exported at this time of year? People talking about it affecting trade. Even without pubs and restaurants I would hope household demand would keep pushing up.
