Drilling anyone?

I need to create some tilth for the seed, the carrier is a must before the claydon and I will also run the power harrow over one 25 acre field at least were the carrier struggled to cut in.
It's my first year with an SR and I think i've cocked up by not running the short disc through stubbles before drilling, hoping sundays rain will help.

I have tried getting tilth for my claydon with cultivations or power harrow, but found the best way this spring is to just drill and then do a pass with opico harrows at angle prior to rolling as normal.
The just drill fields are chitting nicely but the 'tilth' ones are sitting in dry soil!

This is what we have done for the beans, claydon, harrow, roll but with the wide share for barley this heavy land needs some tilth.
Only drilling the heavy land with the claydon, the other has been loosened and drilled more conventionally but not ploughed purely trying to conserve moisture.

I was a little concerned about seed coverage on some of what I did straight in with the claydon so I rolled it with shatterboards down an inch or so. Really pleased with the result.
Seeds germinated in damp soil do here's hoping!

Double rolling now I think.
Same here- looks like precious little rain for the next six weeks or so.

Spent all this morning re-doing all the necessary budgets and cashflows on the basis of 2020 yields being down 60% on last year, which currently seems a reasonable outcome.

Funnily enough, not too much difference to be seen in cashflow until this time next year, when it quickly all falls off the proverbial cliff.

Consequently, having driven the combine for 65 years already (and tied all the bags for 5 years before that) decided to jack it in come 1st July which may still be, with any luck, just before harvest.

:D :D:D

Canyon oats. Hope "cover crop" holds a bit of moisture.

Caught right. Terranoed and pressed after barley harvest. Thick green cover. Power harrowed yesterday. Drilled and rolled today. Few wet spots I'm marking with canes as it looks like a blocked drain.

55ha oats and 30ha spring barley.

Drilling some spring wheat today, and I have to say it is still plenty damp enough. You can push your finger through the dry crust into the sh1t underneath.
Rapide just about runs with front discs not being used, then turn around and roll with the drill to close slots before they dry out. Roll properly in 24hrs.

Crust gone solid here, can't get the Moore or the Vaddy to penetrate it in places and fed up with doing percentage jobs this year, OSR WW & W Barley all patchy and can't face another patchy field so pulled the trigger and got the Patriot out, that now needs Power harrow tomorrow, drill on Monday. Knowing my luck this week the wilting volunteers will bung the drill now

You certainly couldn't do that here, all soils are like concrete on top.
