cattle hurdles. Will they be stolen

We are thinking of setting up a handling pen with cattle hurdles and leaving them in the field set up. Its in the middle of nowehere. How likely would they be to get nicked? Is there a way of marking them to make them less desirable? There are a few farm thefts in the area

Paint them half red but even so I would work out way of making them impossible to move individually or tie them to something solid and concreted into the ground.

I have thought about knocking some 8ft straining posts in and chain them to the posts, or to use gates rather than hurdles and hang them high.

I wouldn’t leave them plenty hard up at moment. Telepoles and crash barriers instead for a pen to leave up.

Never mind the pen. How easy are you making it to round up the cattle and take them?

Are thieves like magpies and attracted to shiny metal? Could they be disguised to look old and rusty!!

Whatever pen I have up there makes it easier for someone to round up animals but there's nothing I can do about that. It's for rounding up off fells. I need at least a semi permanent set up

Crash barriers are an option but I've found it really hard to find some that will deliver there here at present.

I can easily get gates or hurdles next day. Just concerned I might as well leave my credit card in the field.

Wish I could find some old and rusty ones. They're bloody hard to find second hand

3 meter lenght of M20 threaded rod HD galvanised is about £11 + vat

Cut in half and its similar money to buying galvanised locking pins.

You would have to put extra nuts on to protect against cordless/petrol grinder.

Pull them all to bits and at least drop them flat on ground and cross your fingers and put some seed harrows in gate way upside down

If you have telepoles I would put them in at 10' spacing to how you want the pen. You can then put gates, hurdles or better still bolt tubing/box section (left rusty) between them which won't get pinched.

I have a set in full view of the village that have been there at least 5 years. They might be safer putting them somewhere highly visible than hidden away.

I've ended up with all my roadside gates rusty old knackered things, they look like sh!t but new ones get nicked

It makes me mad to think that you cant go about your business because some lowlife will pinch the gates. If I had my way I'd be wireing the gates to the nearest mains cable. Could be a kind of human Larson trap..... shiny metal, high voltage, local pikey ... zap. Keep going until you've culled the local underclass.
