Everything’s devalued by 30%

Christ, what a dreadful thread. Things are never as good as they seem, but also they're never as bad as they seem. I'm getting bored to tears with some saying the world is doomed and will never recover from this. It's bollox. Tough times are here and they will be for some time but why tf would people stop buying houses forever for instance? A small drop in prices is no bad thing frankly. In every walk of life we've seen valuations getting way too far ahead of reality, this is a sharp but awful dose of reality.

Do you not think a new disease is going around and very few people are being tested for it and you have a spike in deaths. That the cause may actually be the new disease. I know of 5 cases in the UK of people with covid only one was tested as she was a doctor. All 5 were pretty sick for a couple of days but we're Young fit and healthy and had not gone to hospital. But if they had took a turn for worse and died at home they would of been part of the 70% not attributed directly to covid as they were not tested.

the tests are awful awful things

God what a depressing read.

Life in the west has been too good for too long and we now have two generations who have never had any real collective hardship to contend with but this isn't the end of the world.

The media have a lot to answer for by sensationalising and catastrophising the situation. I've had to turn Piers Morgan off, if he says "we're in a war" one more time I swear I'll throw the telly out the window!!!

The media have frankly been making a total embarrassment of themselves throughout this. Their constant pathetic "questions" are out of step with the country. There was a poll on last night showing how resilient the general public are and how they are behind the lockdown. The overwhelming majority want it to continue for a while. Contrast that with the media's wailing about it being unbearable.

I agree, there should be a lockdown on the forum of these type.of threads because they clearly are not productive or helpful. I was always taught that sharing doubt is a dangerous thing.

I've cut most of my media and social media intake, its has been repetitive since the third week. They are trying to stay relevant, their business is bad news. Media moguls profit on bad times. Everyone is in this together it's the one thing that has united the nation for at least one generation, we are resilient people.

(I'm aware its gathered from a media outlet, and an entertainer/celebrity who I dont think we should listen to normally or use as a moral compass. This time he is spot on)

It is hard to see where this is going as a lay person, especially as the so called experts seem to have different views. As I see it if there is too little money floating around the economy and a large proportion of the population cannot buy the basics because of lack of money there will be deflation.
I cannot see a government, at that point, presiding over that scenario as there would be anarchy with crime spiraling up.
The option will be to continue printing money by the container load to give people buying power. If too few goods available then wholesale inflation will result.

This situation won’t ever end until there’s both a vaccine and antidote. Even then getting things moving again will take years.

Unreported yet the property market is knackered. No buyers. No credit and as yet nothing reported.

Car trade ruined pretty much overnight. Lease companies can’t pick up end of lease vehicles because there’s nowhere to send them for sale.

I don’t care what anybody says there will be a food shortage due to the supply chain. We are going to see gassing of chicken and pork sheds even though there is people to feed. The middle man industry in the food chain is knackered. We are already seeing root crop planting down by 20%. Milk job is finished without intervention. Soft fruit? What soft fruit as the imported stuff will fade away soon enough.

When hundreds of thousands of people start defaulting on their mortgages, the banks could recall debt on farms and business to prop their domestic property loans up resulting in lots of farms on the market devaluing land by as much as 50%.

This country is a supply logistics setup in the main and the setup is now failing us. The government are talking about manufacturing in the uk again but they are going to have to financially support it to get it going. Then ultimately it’ll fail in years to come when China can supply at half the price because their standard of living is poor compared to ours.

The problem is in the UK and many other 1st world countries our standard of living has exceeded our ability to maintain it in a time of need like now.

Don’t disagree, look at oil going negative, best thing to do would bulk buy some deep freezers and stock them up over the coming months ready for it. We’re waiting for a grant for green tech to bring a battery machine to market, government dragging its feet, meant to have been online last September. The uk has turned into a commodity based country. Manufacturing is sparse when it comes to situations like this. It’s a sad situation, hopefully what you have put won’t come to fruition but signs right now are indicating it all heading that way.

Looking at the positives too, I think this is a major wake up call to western governments who for the last 50 years have been exporting key manufacturing to the far east. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this leads to major economies repatriating some industries to ensure capacity during hard times. To be fair on him, Trump has recognised this and has been making moves this way in the US since 2017. Goes back to my point about western countries having it too good for too long, we've forgotten the importance of being - to a degree - self sufficient.

From a farming point of view a move in this direction could be massively beneficial.

Some of the media are just looking for ways of tripping up the government minister as their downfall makes news. They continually go on asking stupid questions that any sensible journalist knows can't be answered yet. Piers Morgan, Laura kuensberg, Robert peston have all gone down in my estimations drastically.
And as for kier starmer. I thought he was being quite sensible with his approach to the government and how they were dealing with it. Then he says testing was too slow, lock down was too slow and soft and ppe supply was the fault of the government.
Funny how he didn't bring these things up a few weeks ago. Everyone is an expert with a dose of hindsight:mad:

Yes.Particularly if you have an overdraft aswell(doesnt have to be large either). They know that all they have to do is pull your overdraft and if you have not defaulted on your long term loan, you soon will.
Can’t help thinking farms/land would be the last thing they would pull the plug on as long as repayments are being met

I think things will pick up sooner than some say. I hope we start making more stuff in our own country like Germany already do. I sincerely hope Boris tells the Chinese what they can do with their 5G, I'm sure we are capable of doing this as we did invent the phone in the first place.

Most countries in the world are in difficulty, so it is the same for all. I am optimistic that we will soon be over this and back to normal.
