Lockdown takeaways
- You can have anything in the World but without your health it’s nothing
- Exile from your loved ones makes you appreciate them even more and enforces quality time for communication and you actually listen
- Social media is great if you pare down all the rubbish and use it to stay in contact and in tune with family and friends, the local village communities and I also follow and savour posters of all things of natural beauty
- Terrestrial TV is a dead concept; mostly rubbish. Ditto most broadcast media. I am now very selective with what and when I watch. The paucity of journalism means I choose to follow a few insightful commentators on podcast; Aaronovich, Nick Robinson, Matt Frei
- At the tender age of 57 and as a constant communicator, I realise I’ve been doing it all wrong and that video calling is THE way to get every nuance, humour and focus with my loved ones. I almost feel cheated now with a conventional call although I’ve received many lovely and spontaneous calls whilst I’ve been ill especially.
- I have re-discovered books. Books that were given as thoughtful presents and have meaning to me and the giver. I can switch off at last.
- The evening birdsong at home on the terrace is divine and made even better without overhead aircraft or distant traffic on the 1088 and 143
- Lockdown means seeing and discovering a local community, out exercising, helping me and many kindnesses
- My neighbours and friends have extended many small kindnesses and when I needed them. I appreciate and will remember all of them.
- My garden not only needs mowing but better care so I don’t embarrass myself compared with my neighbour’s show garden!
- I love where I live, my place in it and the cattle and sheep and their needs keep me together
- I count myself very lucky to have like-minded friends around the UK and the World who share and empathise in everything I do. This especially applies to the bond between cattle keepers I find.
- My bucket list is less about destinations now and more about journeys and who I’m with and why
- I am very fortunate, My wealth is measured in a way far more valuable than money.
