Fendt or Fastrac

My biggest concern after reading about Fastracs was the reliability. Got a 5 year warranty on ours given these concerns. Problem is if it goes down at a critical time we don't have another tractor that could pull the sprayer instead just like that, although given ISOBUS it could be done with some new hydraulic fittings. Have 1000 hr service coming up and a slight grumble in the diff with 4WD which I need to check (might be something I'm doing).

Never driven Fendt, so can't comment on their comfort, but can certainly say that the 4220 is just in another league compared to the Masseys we had. If you're thinking about a Horsch, one of the key strengths is stability at speed, and you need a comfortable tractor to make that doable from an operator's point of view. I had a sore back before and now it's gone despite having spent 750 hours in it this year. I almost wouldn't drive anything else now. 4WS does mean a bit of extra complexity and button pressing to swap between the two modes (Topcon doesn't steer in 4WS very well so use this at either end of the field). However, I find backing the sprayer into corners a LOT easier with 4WS as you can pretty much put the boom where you want it (almost easier than a SP now I've got used to it).

Only thing to think about with the trailed sprayers (especially a GS with a long wheel base) on 36m is that it's so long that you don't have much room to switch boom off and turn except in perfectly square headlands (this is again exacerbated with Topcon because at the moment I'm struggling to get it to model a steered trailed implement, but have been told of a trick to improve this which I need to try).

can you get the sprayer to steer in the 4ws tractor wheeling on turns leaving just one track or is that not possible ?

Has anyone re tyre'd a 4220 on 600 r30 what are tyre prices compared to an equivalent standard tractor on 650 r??
Genuine question as well how long do tyres last compared to larger conventional tractor tyres ?

Have 600 Bridgestone VFs. Sold the BKTs that came with it to swap. Will check prices for you if you like?
It's a genuine query as tyres are a major cost of running something now so anyone looking to take a tractor to higher hours is gonna need to replace them at some point so does a fastrac wear them quicker than conventional tractors are they more expensive for speed rating etc etc?

Fastrac tyres wear a lot faster than bigger tyres like 38" or 42" rim size

They realised they put the wrong tyre diameter and have upped them on the latest incarnation, just need another 80hp now.

Why anyone bothers to share that post is beyond me. If you read the comments below from ex staff members they’re chipped to over 420hp. There is a video of them mowing and turning at the ends they’re just about on 3 wheels, they went to JCB as the JDs kept snapping link arms under this treatment. Obviously that is all if you believe any / all of it.
However the backup from Pecks and JCB has always been outstandingly good to us.

Only if you intend to chip a tractor way beyond its design parameters and drive it like you stole it! (By the way, the glasses are RayBans!;))
Yes just reading that... if they were unreliable it would solve itself through poor sales.
The fendt is an excellent tractor for this job but I think the JCB would suit @Banana Bar situation better. The last Fastrac we had was so good I still keep looking for a good second hand one!

On a 6000lt trailed sprayer. Either 724 or 4220?

BB
On the buying price there will not be much in it or there was not when we priced them
In 5 years time the fendt will have a very good resale price and the FasTrack will be worth a lot less
We have ran both fendt and JCB and so far the fendt has cost a lot less to run , never lost a day of work because of any problems it has had , never had any thing to do with the 4220 Fastrac apart from bring on demo, but I Know a few people with them and they have all said they need to go as soon as there is no warranty on them

Over the years we’ve hired a 930 (square bonnet), 820 and 818 round bonnet old style and all were great machines. I don’t recall any issues with any of them.
More recently we’ve had a 724 on the Fendt buyback deal. It did it’s 4 year contract and left and I have to say I don’t miss it to be honest. I found it underpowered but the dyno said it was correct. Good on fuel as expected and averaged under 14l/hr over the 4 years hire across a range of jobs. Replaced it with a Puma CVX and it’s on par with the Fendt. Exactly the same on fuel but definitely uses less adblue. Depreciation is exactly the same as a Fendt as well but your spending less in the first place so less outgoings. The Puma has the better cab but the Fendt was quieter. Fendt 5km/hr faster on the road but you’d be bonkers to tow a trailed sprayer over 40km/hr anyway when loaded. Reality is more like 30km/hr on country lanes.
