As a student I was chatting to a sheep farmer showing at a show trying to work out the difference between the breeds. He said “all you need to know son, is they all die just as quick as each other”

One Grandads advice was "load heavy and drive steady" and the other Grandads advice was " load light and go quick" ?

You wouldn't get away with it these days, but I remember loading small bales of straw and having to fetch them home a mile or two, and was told if they've been loaded right there's no need for ropes if its only 7 layers high and you drive sensibly.

We used to do that. 7 high on the trailers, we had to drive through town (aged about 14), with old IH434s with very dodgy brakes. We used to go right past the police station, but it was OK because half of the policemen used to come and help us when they came off shift.
