Rutland economy green posts are brilliant in winter but snapped a pile the last few weeks. The £3 blue Rutland posts would’ve been better until a week ago. Now I’ve got the cordless drill with me and drilling every hole.

There's an idea. In 18 I made a pilot with a hammer and chisel but its a slow job - especially with hungry cattle following you!

There used to be things like giant wheel nut spider spanners that you rolled along.

Gallagher tumble wheels. They still do them but a bit pricey for a poor Organic stock farmer!
medium weight 5ft bar with a spike welded on the side at the bottom,you can get on fairly quick without keep bending down to make a hole and still use your normal stakes

Metre long L shaped half inch round bar with a pointy end. OH is conducting field trials in the veg plots today putting in bamboo canes. The L shape means I can use it as a walking stick.

Have you got a cordless drill?
A sledge hammer? Cut a Poly post a few inch off the spike And hammer it in and use it as a pilot. If your a sh!t aim get a piece of 24” 4x2 So that you can hold onto it and you’ve got a bigger target to hit with the sledge. You may need several pieces of wood if your doing a lot of stakes.
