Do we need planning permission

Just wondering if any one knows,
We have a 60ft x 30ft machinery shed that now stores fire wood ( split logs drying ) in 1 bay 20ft x 30ft - do we need planning permission to add a 20ft bay as a extension to store logs & fire wood ? so we get our machinery shed back

Officially yes you would. However depends on your circumstance - over 5 ha (I think) to qualify as a farm, then you only need a determination but I would apply for the extension as a machinery shed too as the wood store is not agricultural enough.

If no one can see it from public roads or footpaths JFDI

Yes it would need planning permission; or prior approval if going the permitted development route. Processing of firewood is not an agricultural activity so prior approval may not be granted.

Ok, So in a hypothetical world if we left the logs & fire wood ( which are for own use ) where they are, Can we add to the existing shed to store farm machinery ?

Yes, providing you have 5+ Ha and fulfil all the other requirements of Part 6a of Schedule 2 of the GPDO then you should be ok, just make sure you describe it as a machinery shed not a log store.
