Anyone heard about Newark Livestock Market!

It would have to be a bloody big carrot to get PG away from Darlington and just think how pee'd off Darlington will be if he jumps ship this early on. I love rumours, I heard the old market boss, before the idiot from London took over, is in the frame for it. Now that would be a result. He knows markets and livestock inside out and was always fair to farmers and staff if they were straight with him.

What are Brightwells up to at Builth Wells Market. They dont seem to be making any effort to run it during the lock down.. Is Builth going the same way as they did with Rhayader?
Are they wanting everyone to travel to Hereford i wonder. Seems to be a thriving well praised market there.

I don't think it's as bad now as it used to be. Particularly since they started the Thursday sale. Plus I think young watkins has poached a few over to Leek.

Leek reports looking quite good lately half tempted send a few but I do like Peter he seems an honest bloke too me... Thursday sale does take the pressure off a lot I’d imagine but it can be a bit hit and miss if they get too many lambs in I don’t think they get enough buyers come for them

I think these rumours are just started to try and rock the boat

He seems to be doing ok at dfam but it's hard to judge as we can't go and see the stock sold, it seems some regulars have drifted away and he's brought some in from down the country (If that's sustainable in the long term I don't know). I don't think the getting paid later has gone down well.

How late do they pay?

I wouldn’t be keen on that as like to have money before taking any more the next week.
I think that's some of the feeling. I understand they've had to do it to keep the job ticking over but if you can pop down the road to northallerton or Thirsk, get a similar trade and get paid quicker. Well I can see some going elsewhere. Hopefully it will get back to normal, I'm sticking with them as they've always tried their best for me.

Holmfirth????

Usually the highest top prices anywhere in the country. Farmer owned.
Top prices don't mean squat though. I work on averages. Plus if I turned up at Holmfirth with 150-300 extra Hoggs a week I'd ruin the job for everyone. My better bred texel Hoggs probably would sell well at Holmfirth, but it's the rough wooled texels/mule wethers/blackie Hoggs that we do on volume that I need a good outlet for. ?

Has anyone heard anymore since it went to tender? Latest gossip I heard is that Hugh Brown CEO at Melton and 3 others have put in for it. That will be a disaster if its true. Melton's trading loses for the last 2 years have been specular, 279K and 305K, he's making all the office staff who have been there years redundant , fur and feather will not be weekly only on their Saturday sales, so all those staff are redundant. Not the person to take on a new market.

I struggle to see how a livestock market can make such a big loss ?
It's not like they are buying and selling goods, and with the volume that goes through Melton and %commission charged, I can't see how someone can go wrong. What am I missing?

Bad debts!. Two weeks credit, lorry of sheep each week approx 30K, does that for few months, pays on time then doesn't pay for 3 weeks till market stops them, if they stop them that quickly, 90K debt minimum. Buyer disappears or goes bankrupt etc etc.

It’s seriously annoying that it happens when I buy stock at market they expect paying on the day..... a dealer buys stock at market he can go a month without being asked for any money
