Not tried to claim a penny, wasn't affected at all and to be honest had a few digging jobs came up meant I was busier than usual all of April and May, in fact still not bloody caught up.

Know of plenty that haven't claimed as don't feel like they were affected enough but a few the other way. One already gets plenty of brown envelope without getting anymore off the goverment I would have thought.

I think when we all have to start paying for this lock down, that's when you might regret not claiming

My memory may be playing up but I thought you put your NI number and UTR number in and they told you if you were eligible? Surely everyone had been affected by Corvid in one way ore another?

You were eligible to claim....but not necessarily eligible to receive it. The applicant has to confirm their business had been adversely affected. The govt can’t do that for you.

Will the level of what has ( if it has ) to be paid back be determined by your end of year returns compared with other years ?
And what about furloughed staff of companies still doing business through these times ?

At no point was the level of adversity you had to suffer made clear to determine eligibility for the grant. Did COVID affect your business. ...... Yes .... then that should be ok. At no point was the level specified

Who can claim
You can claim if you’re a self-employed individual or a member of a partnership and all of the following apply:

  • you traded in the tax year 2018 to 2019 and submitted your Self Assessment tax return on or before 23 April 2020 for that year
  • you traded in the tax year 2019 to 2020
  • you intend to continue to trade in the tax year 2020 to 2021
  • you carry on a trade which has been adversely affected by coronavirus
Your business could be adversely affected by coronavirus if, for example:

  • you’re unable to work because you:
    • are shielding
    • are self-isolating
    • are on sick leave because of coronavirus
    • have caring responsibilities because of coronavirus
  • you’ve had to scale down or temporarily stop trading because:
    • your supply chain has been interrupted
    • you have fewer or no customers or clients
    • your staff are unable to come in to work

Local corn mills furloughed a ruck load of staff, when I asked the manager why, he just said it was their usual quiet time of year so thought they'd take advantage of it...

Local ifor Williams dealer has done a roaring trade on trailers to builders apparently thanks to there "Boris" wage ! It has been a bit unfairly done as who my wife works for can't claim anything on any of the schemes because they are a seasonal business, and she will be out of work until the end of July at the earliest and then will only be 2 days a week as the schools are off and she look after our kids. We are about £4k out of pocket with her lost wage so far this year, so should I claim ?! (I won't btw)
