Right then. It's fodder rape time. :(

Does the rotting down sprayed off grass hinder brassica seedlings?

What should the interval be between spraying off pasture and drilling kale/ hybrid?
I treat them the same - just drilled some brassicas for ourselves into a very old sward that was sprayed off - we couldnt get to drill straight away (7 days) so I put a load of lime pellets down the spout - germinating within 3 days.

No, you can spray 3 days after drilling if you like as long as seeds ain't growing

Risky gamble imo. I sprayed off a grass field last Saturday and drilled a ryegrass/crimson clover mix into warm, damp soil (with my Simtech) on Sunday. The Crimson clover had chitted on Monday and the grass is up in places too today.?

If I’d waited until after drilling until I’d sprayed, I wouldn’t have got on as it was too windy for the next two days, then the seeds were already up enough to have been wiped out.

Thats a very definite answer from someone who says he is learning ;)

Did not mean to come over as a young no all . Thanks for the tip on slug pellets . They not cheap at £5/acre
But I was firmly told that gas would not effect turnips. But also the approach should be to get the grass off before drilling
I asked him about your drilling straight away and he said in theory your right . But he would not recommend anyone to drill into those conditions
I'm wondering if 2 ton of ground limestone would have the same effect as your prills ,spread on top

I would be very wary doing that as well. Safer with cereals/maize as there is more soil depth involved.

quite agree, just a bugger in forage crops.

Actually, it is a forage crop, supposedly brought over by the Romans as such. A friend baled a new ley that was full of it a few years ago and the bales got tested. I forget the ME but remember it was high, but the CP was 28%. Absolute rocket fuel when fed to his housed sheep, who just left a pile of stalks to clean up.

Maybe you, and all of us, are missing a trick?
