Rats Rats Rats Advice Please

If you are local to Hampshire, I can offer a help in hand with shooting them (.177 air rifle), I also have 4 rifles if you have the time to shoot along side me. I'm fully insured basc member but never had to use it so far. I shoot on a farm at the moment controlling rats and corvids and some nights under the right conditions I have cleared 30+ rats. Thanks

Every night at about 10 ish I wander up to check on the cattle in the sheds. Dog comes with me and without fail will catch a few rats . Unfortunately he is well outnumbered . Loads say " I will come with air rifle and shoot some " but they never turn up !!

Hi all
I am new on here so please go gentle.
We have a small farm of about 300 acres and this year we are over run with rats.
I am looking at getting my ticket to purchase some stronger poison I see LANTRA do a e learning course "Rodent Control on farms" but at the bottom of the page it says "please note this course is not part of a qualification to be a pest controller" but I am not looking at becoming a pest controller just want to thin our rats out and need the certificate.
Could anyone please advise what to do or who to speak to.
Thanks Rob

Could you not overcome the issue by using natural predators of it ? instead of using chemicals ?

That's the trouble I'm finding lately, a lot of people let honest people like my self down, and its hard to find land where people will let me shoot, which I understand as your letting someone on your property around your livlyhood with a air rifle. I've shot at the same farm for 3 years now and get up there every weekend (weather permitting), it's a good 1 and half hour drive for me but I enjoy being on a farm aswell as shooting but sadly a lot of air gunners let the side down and people give up trusting.

Eh Rats as Said you need to stop the food source if you can , but if you are that infested you need cat's they will do the job for you and you need to try and find the den/nest and wreck it that will get them moving. good luck

He hasnt been back online since the day he signed up so you might be waiting a while.

Rats is very clever and crafty creatures, perhaps they have out manoeuvred him; hopefully not though!

When I were a kid we shared house with rats, roaches, and occasionally head lice but by the time I was born in March 1945 dad had won the battle against bed bugs but eradication of the rats rook quite a good few years.

When my grandfather was Alive we used to have Ricks sheaves waiting to be thrashed out over winter, used to get a lot of rats ,Father told me to encourage the rats out He would put the rat poison down and mix it with sugar to make it sweeter than what they was eating in the Rick ,and put a bowl of water by it as well, we still do this method now When the things come calling.
