Cats will not make the slightest difference to rats. All they will do is decimate the local bird population.
proper baiting, removal of nest sites and removing food source is the answer

If anyone is looking for something spectacular (not cheap) to knock down rats in the pitch black drop me a message.
We have gone from bulk tipped feed to silo and our rats have been shot or moved on.

As much as I don’t like rats i’d never do that.
Hitting them smack dead in the pitch black when they have no idea your there is great fun.

No I dont like em either we have some about but would never do that , cat gets odd one or two we have put poison down in past dont really like that , then when they staggering about I dispatch them then with air pistol .

That also sounds like a great kindness and better than poisoning.

Once, whilst working on contract in Turkey, I was poisoned and rolled in agony all night and at times had trouble deciding which end to stick over the bog first. Mind you, I didn't get much sympathy off my Mrs and suppose I should be glad that she didn't contemplate putting me out of my misery.

Friend used glue strips never seen them but again dont like sound of them struggling away untill you put them out of there misery allso chance of birds on them .

I have had a pack of glue strips for months but binned them, un used, only last week.

It is quite effective. Just got the new night sight so gives me something to do in the quiet evenings.

Whilst I was still in employment we had a plague of mice out back and I repeatedly set spring traps each evening and would return home off nights to discover several little corpses in traps and perhaps one or two mice still alive but stuck in a trap and would have to dispatch and bin them. Not knowing how long the little critters had been suffering I switched to an electric, battery powered, trap and found that it produced a much cleaner and efficient kill but required better weather protection.

Am not to bothered about mice cris its rats I am wairy of could do with something like your on about but for rats I have seen them on you tube dont know if we can get them over here think they was in America or somewhere will have a look .
