Potentially 3m Hong Kongers to UK?

Ignoring the idiocy and trolling so far... this could now happen; in fact I'd wager that it probably will.

Everyone knows or, rather, everyone with a brain and no dogma will admit that China never had any intention of honouring its promises to Hong Kong; and we all know that nothing will change this.

For myself, I'm against open-door mass-immigration such as allowed by Labour 'to rub the 'Right's nose in it' and EU membership; rather than allowing that, I think it rational to bring / allow in people who have been selected on the basis of their ability, but...

I've thought long and hard on this matter, and Hong Kongers are just about the only foreseeable exception there is or can be to my preference against mass immigration because we, as a country, have an absolute historic and moral obligation toward them.

They are 'our' people, every bit as much as those in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. On a practical aside, this all assumes that China will 'allow' them to leave; but, if they can come, I'll be glad to see them and will do what I can to welcome them.

What would the average net worth of these people be? London property market is gonna explode if this is cemented as policy?

If I was in Hong Kong, I think I would be leaving tomorrow - well I wouldn’t, I would of been gone a while back

Depends what they are allowed to leave with. All the refugees we have taken in in the past have arrived with little more than what they were standing up in. I remember the concern and chaos 27k refugees caused arriving from Uganda, this would be on a whole different scale. But one assumes it's just empty bravado from BoJo who will be guessing the vast majority would always opt for Taiwan .

What a humongous load of testicles........
IF they were indeed YOUR people as you claim, why did you ABANDON them????
IF they are still your people as you infer, why don’t you do as MT did when the Argies sent a leaky boat and a handful of malnourished sailors with rusty muskets to the Malvinas?
Of course not .... the solution is to create an illusion of action. Let’s invite the whole lot of them over here .... (knowing full well the Chinese wouldn’t let them) and let’s call up our dearest friends and partners in the EU and have them crank up the EU printing presses to print British passports for 3 million Kongers who won’t and can’t use them. Perfect plan!
And while I’m here, the British lease of Hong Kong came about partly because Britain became the worlds biggest ever organised drugs gang, by forcibly exporting opium to China as a way of paying its debts for tea imported from China ...

Oh, don’t bother claiming running drugs back then wasn’t illegal as it was sanctioned by the government. That holds even less water than the claim that running slaves wasn’t illegal ....
