Using constant pump attachments without telehandler constant pump

We have a 25 year old Manitou 526 with a double action lever for third service but no option for constant pumping. We have a post driver with external controls and so far have been making it work by holding the third service lever in the cab on flow with a bungee. Is this a bad idea? Safety wise it seems fine as we don’t ever raise the weight unless we are going to let it fall on a post so if the bungee were to fail, the worst that would happen is the weight would drop on the post. I’m more thinking if it’s bad for the hydraulics. Any advice much appreciated.

If the bungee failed with the weight being lifted, it would stop more or less where it is rather than drop?
Can't see anything wrong with bungee idea, at 1 time every wrapper would have been used with the same setup on a tractor spool!

That was my thinking too really. I just thought worst case If the lever were to ping back the other way it might drop but I think it’s unlikely. Thanks

Is there a return pipe of some sorts on the knocker? Constant pumping to a dead end (when not using the knocker) will cause issues over time..
Yes, the knocker controls (weight raise and lower + tilt) are connected to the loader via 2 pipes (flow and return). The lever is only set to “constant pumping” with the bungee when knocking in posts so normally less than a minute or so at a time.
