VAT was introduced as part of the process of joining the EEC, since we are now leaving, we can adjust the vat rate without asking permission from the EU.
My understanding is that the EU coffers are filled with a %age take from each countries Vat revenue. Happy to be corrected.
We haven’t left yet so have to comply with EU on VAT rules until end of year. EU minimum 15% except for certain items that can be a lower rate

Send them up to Northumberland. We have had a full planning application in since last november and got nowhere very fast. They let it run to the end of the time, then ask for more information, and it goes on and on.

Ah - planning permissions for us mere mortals are still just as much hassle. It's just the big boys looking to build 2000 houses or so can do as they like due to government housing allocations etc.

The government will need to go big, with a headline-grabbing, feel good bonanza to get people spending. My feeling is that people have stayed at home, seen big savings, and realised they don't miss the unnecessary consumerism we had all gotten into. They won't return to the frivolous spending our economy relies upon without big incentives
Yip,

I don’t miss my daily Costabucks large caramel coffee maciato with cream topping and sprinkles every day.

Think I’ll give it up ..........:coffee::ROFLMAO:

Put VAT up to 30% .... the general public will still spend ...we live in an 'I want I must have' society.it wont hurt business as they can reclaim it and it's the easiest way to collect taxes in off everyone . No means testing etc .

Temporary exemption on stamp duty for property buyers on sales under £500k seems to be a firm idea- I expect in due course the current exemption on capital gains on your primary residential property will have to be changed to become a taxed income provision for the Government.

Jolly annoying if you have just moved house and had to pay a big chunk of money in Stamp Duty.

Hopefully there will be an appreciation that the economy will be fixed by increasing consumers' disposable incomes rather than by taking money directly in taxes.

Cut VAT & fuel duty (temporarily)
Cut stamp duty

Help businesses to employ/retain people and weather the storm.

There is no need to pay for Covid in 5 or even 10 years, especially if there is a no-deal Brexit round the corner.

The young have naff all money. A small clutch of rich retirees have plenty. Expect a redistribution; a focus on getting investment out of Cayman Islands etc and into productive assets or infrastructure; and beyond that a proper "new deal" spendathon. A real "no looking back" job. And dualling the A15.
Whilst you are dualing can we please add the A47, PLEASE.
