Grass growth on the farm is amazing at the moment. This field of spring reseed was cut 8 days ago. It is a Barenburg combi lay that has been grazed twice and cut once since sowing in April. By end of May it had grown nothing of worth, but heifers were allowed on to graze for 4 days, which seemed to wake the grass up and make it tiller out. Since then and the rain it has grown seriously quickly. This has had 1 bag/acre of 24.0.17 aftercut, and will be dairy cow grazed in a week or so.

Drilling Westerwolds in to 3rd cut stubble that has had a whiff of roundup and giving it a sniff of lime too. Hoping to get a late 4th cut this season and a very early 1st cut next before Spring Barley +/- peas

Quite surprised that the Rapid didn't close the rows better. Have to give it a seeing too now

What was up with the old ley? Re drill to rip out next year seems mad. So guess the ley was spent.
Can you grow winter wheat on the island?

In the mad, bad old days when I was an arable farmer (with sheep), grew anything from OSR to hemp and everything in between including field scale veg plus 300ac of WW

Son’s idea. Wants to experiment with options if we are going to have spring droughts as a routine. Just one of our trials ... as you do.
Like 3x milking again now we’ve got a grip on the rotary

Ah the mad bad old days must look like a holiday now.

Another cut of grass and then ww planted late september for wholecrop would be a great break for new ley next summer.

New backing gates fitted, adaption on the design of one I’d seen, but wouldn’t fit as we are still on 30deg. Concertina gate so cows can’t get stuck behind it.

most enjoyable part of my day. Put the cows over the road and went to attempt to walk a cow and calf home that calved unexpected, but calf was not up
for it. So sorted 3 springers out of 47 myself with just the dogs and walked them home instead.
