Update on A449 road closure. RTC involving large goods vehicle carrying farm feed and a tractor/trailer carrying potatoes. Walking wounded were treated by West Midlands Ambulance Service. Both drivers had a lucky escape.

Fire crews from Ross and Whitchurch assisted with significant fuel leaks which were prevented from entering drains using environmental grab packs and soil. The road will be closed for some time while they wait for recovery of the vehicles.

What's the way forward ?

Age, experience, training and speed of each driver?

Lorry driver will be a professional Class 1 driver with a CPC certificated drive and a current medical to boot

Plus he will have a digital tachometer to prove his version of the accident

Weekly or fortnightly vehicle checks, signed off more than likely by a professional haulage industry body, like FTA or RHA

Tractor driver, none of the above
