Sold in sept/Oct for Feb/march calvers is 800 depending on the group. Maybe a touch more if there real quality touch less if some dogs on board.
£800???
So glad I put on my incontinence pants this morning. P!ssed myself laughing. You wouldn't even get maidens for that money. That includes south of the border for xbred.

Yeah spoke to a few over there, they want more money as said, but you pick the best and they get delivered. Big difference between that and taking a complete mob and being ex farm.

Stay away from sale barns and buy entire herds or groups without rejecting any and you’d be surprised what people will accept.
As said before, farmer sells his cows in a market and they average £1200. Looks great. The 30% that go to the factory the following week for 450 make the average some what more realistic.

I don’t doubt what you’re saying but can’t understand how you can buy whole herd for £800 when I’m getting same for 600kg straight out of the parlour 10 year old Frisian.

Do any other block calvers get nervus when they had all their cows dry for the first time. Currently trying to get through a long list of jobs befor calving starts, like everthing cash flow costs always greater than i had hoped, is it normal to kind of want to start milking again very soon! Always anxious i may of cocked up AI dates, or scanning not right!

if you reckon 1/4 out of whole herd, are killers, about right, though, at the moment, seems anything will sell ! Even with prices where they are, for y/s, have been told, cheaper than in the store ring ! The 1/4, as my friend say's, if the farmer disagrees, just ask him, if he would buy it, at auction, the reply, answers the question !

Yep. All cows through the race for tb test last 2 days, 2 weeks from calving. They didn't even look in calve. Then fought what a disaster that would be.

Nope. I hate the first cow calving. Regardless of how tight money is and believe me money has been tight!

How long have you hated the start of calving?
I love getting going again, presents the opportunity to better previous years results and the farm feels alive when the cows are all in milk and tipping away nicely.
