Unfortunately its in Spanish but you get the jist.

My first impression of Landrover electronic traction control was in our 99 discovery 2 auto.

It was absolutely hopeless on a slightly muddy surface.I have since learnt I was driving it all wrong.Instead of getting a bit of momentum and just applying enough throttle to get you through, you have to drive like an idiot, foot to the floor so you don't loose your momentum when the ETC brakes the spinning wheels.

In the above Video the new defender copes with some challenging terrain, nearly as well as the G wagon with locking diffs,However it is the last challenge that proves which will make the best off-road tow car.How can it perform with a 3500kg trailer if it can't even tow a < 2 tonne G-Wagon.

Pretty sure that the Defender is available with an optional rear diff lock which would have made all the difference in most of those tests.
Nevertheless an excellent comparison and the Defender is nearly half the purchase price of the G.

By the way, I'm fairly sure that both weigh nearer 2.5 tons and certainly the G is nowhere near the less than 2 tons you imagine. Just checked and it is very nearly spot-on 2.5 tons before passengers and luggage.

Big numbers around here now but could be jlr staff cars being as we are located down the road from Gaydon. At first it did not take my fancy but like the series 3 discovery more I see of them the more I like the look. The price however😣

would you say that if the Welsh build versions was 10k more at launch ?

Can't win can they ! - on one hand we all say this need to be price competitive and then on the other, we say they need to spend more building it in the UK !
True but they won't be able to adorn their product with a Union Jack now probably. I guess a Welshman seeing the lost opportunity for Welsh jobs along with the loss of the Bridgend plant can say it's a sorry state of affairs from his perspective

Still, a UK company and they are doing nothing different to what many others that they must compete with have done for decades

Landrover don't build all their cars in the UK (Slovakia) Mini (Germany) etc

certain fact that none of the much loved double cabs are built in the UK

Get a pair an Alsatian Grenadier and a Steyr drive train Panda ..................

I don't know what the long term option is for a basic work truck as everything seems to be climbing away in price and spec now. Can't say I fancy wholly Chinese or Indian built

Maybe an old car or van, a tractor and then a haulier like the French do

Decided to stick with 110 and yesterday acquired a very tidy low spec late Freelander 2 for doing most of the running about. They should keep me going into my dotage with TLC and a good dose of waxoyl.

Just like JCB, another ardent Brexiter that supported the theory of Brexit but when it comes down to it, the reality he has helped create is not conducive to building his product here. See recent investment by JCB in Europe also.

Whatever products I buy in future, it won't be based on any notion that because these two companies (among many others such as Dyson) are British they deserve my money. They helped shaft the UK but they won't be the ones picking up the tab.

Some will say that there is an issue with us farmers asking people to buy British etc but the reality is, I'm not offshoreing my production.

Maybe if it wasn’t for Brexit they would have built the whole thing, chassis and body plus assembly in the UK. Since we as a country seem to be committed to economic suicide, it should be no surprise that manufacturing is choosing the EU countries to invest.

He is, or was, an avid supporter of brexit. Turns out that he is also a great big hypocrite. Just like Dyson and Rees-Mog and others. Look after number one and sod the Country and the working man.
Well this working man is telling him to stuff his Grenadingdier up his arse.

We are in the transition period.
There is everything to play for in the 18 months.
Any industrial decisions made at the moment are a mixture of politicking and edging ones bets.
