Here in Ireland all cattle are in the marts herd number before the sale starts and are the marts responsibility as soon as the drover checks them in. And it says on invoice they belong to mart until paid in full. Maybe it’s different over there
Ownership isn’t necessarily a helpful concept here. It’s a lien, in other words a right of possession. Liens when you hold onto something after selling it but until you get paid are common. Liens where you can go to get property back, and especially sell it when you have, are less so.

A lot of markets have been shaken up lately,Sunderlands taken Builth Wells on with several travelling up from carmarthen,Hay on Wye looks like closed for good and the usual bloody musical chairs at McCartney's at Brecon ( again).

I heard that he was having backhanders off dealers for putting different (lower) prices on the clerking paperwork to what they were knocked down for but don't know how true that is.

That's the story, drop and go, but a farmer saw the auction online, and rightly kicked off. Problem is so many gobby full of bullpoo types become auctioneers. The exception was Richard? The one with the mustache selling stores in Carmarthen who sadly passed away. Straight and to the point.
I would go steady with rumours like that tbh, there would be enough sharp farmers about to know what prices they were knocked down for . I dont know whats gone on , if anything but the chap in question always seemed pretty decent when selling cattle at carmarthen. Carmarthens biggest problem was there didnt seem anybody incharge, auctioneers were all day rate chaps not qualified auctioneers and it wasnt there job to look into accounts etc. That being said they were all good at selling stock . When carmarthen did decide to employ a auctioneer/manager they took on the lad from brecon who was way out of his depth and carmarthens gone downhill ever since.

I was going to say no, not much, but having read the subsequent posts this is actually the closest to the mark. I know it’s boring, but sometimes marts and consultants just part company.
I was about to say that I hope those were hard facts and not rumers, I personally am not interested in loose chit chat, especially when I think that one of us on here is very closely related to the person in question.
I think the mart was doomed before the new kid came from brecon, not enough buyers, not enough cattle and too many maiden bids.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that knows the link between a person in question and a close relation haha
Pritty sure there's a drover on here as well.
