My problem is slats in one House have a polished finish and are shocking slippy. Did the edge of the slats chip? Was nervous about doing them

Same problem here, shed is like an ice rink in certain weather .
Yea chipped big bits out of them and smaller cows feet were getting damaged by them, they were creagh gang slats.
Saying that we have old finlay single slats done and they grooved fine but they are a different profile not like newer gangs slats.

Was it the same person who grooved then or did they do anything different? I may try some and see what happens and stop them if it’s a balls. Thanks for your help.

I recently used PD Grooving.
They grove concrete but use a different tool for slats. I would describe it a 'scratching' them.
It is done with the slat rather than across them to avoid chipping of edges.
I only got a small area of slats done, but it seems a good job.
Well pleased with the concrete grooving.
There number is 07596001437.
Price is per sq yard.

Is our milk price still being affected by Covid? Have I grounds to apply for the 2nd grant for the self employed? Did Dale Farm send out letters telling producers their price was down due to Covid so their farmers could get grant under the first scheme?

Department staff were also promoting the scheme to business development groups.

It look chlean enough straw to me. Does the composting of the manure kill all seeds.
Aurivo up .25 to 24.5p no shiny milk can this month
I'd dump the milk in the morning if I thought it would put the price up. Hunger the bastxxds

Having a look at the new dale farm portal for members . 10 years ago in July the milk price was identical for us as today’s price . That was identical quality too . We are producing similar amounts but are more grass based and minimal cost .
In the year 2000 we were on the average producer production profile , today we are below but the average producer is now putting out 60-70000
Litres a month average . Faster hamster wheels.

So what's the plan...........

what I’ve been doing...........

what I love and believe is right . Keeping the Mrs working is one , doing a little off farm work,A little selling direct to consumer, milking less cows , focused on animal welfare, reducing as much tractor work as possible, starting to look at soil health and working more on natural outlook for production . Trying to slow everything down and enjoy what I do more . We all have different perspectives . My kids won’t milk cows full time so I’m not investing in that end .Cut the cloth to fit .

Can't like that enough. Do what you enjoy. Don't farm for the neighbours to talk about you. Only keep what you can handle and look after. Try and stay out of the 40%tax bracket.

White walker, are you going down the seaweed, murates , soil conditioner, sweet grass (other products available) direction. If you soil sample what minerals are you looking for ?
None of the above, past number of years we have reduced slurry on the grazing platform, all going on silage mostly, also been reducing fertiliser sowed, we would be around a 30 day rotation although I’d like it longer . This year for the first time in decades, we had a mass influx of dung beetles, they are everywhere and worms are massively increasing. Our cow pats are nearly gone by next rotation. We have stopped topping and for this year has been fine . We are leaving more aftermaths and tramping the grass to increase soil organic matter .

it’s early days yet but I have noticed one of the biggest things is time for grass to recover. Those extra days instead of fertiliser makes a massive difference. Maybe it’s all in my head but I’m trying to slow the whole system, reduced inputs and take the pressure off . We have played with composting our fym and are going to include wood chips into the straw bed for soil conditioning this winter. It’s an observation in progress.
